I recently broke my elbow and was looking for good elbow protection, and I have stumbled across a few options that I would like to know more about because I can't find many reviews about them. The 4 options I have been considering are the alpinestars bionic plus guards, leatt 6.0 3df guards, the klim tactical guards, and the fox d30 Titian elbow guards. If you have had any in the past, or know someone who has I was wondering if they held up well, were breathable, how much protection you felt they gave, and if they were comfortable for hotter summer riding and a guy that sweats a lot. Thanks in advance.
I have broken my left elbow twice, once compound, so I never ride without guards.
What works for me is the MSR Gravity guards which have a hard plastic shell and x-straps. I leave the straps fairly loose and wear a tight enough jersey over them to keep them tight. No arm pump issues. I tried the sleeve-type Leatt ones but couldn't stand them, way too much blood restriction.
I recommend d30 based pads because about everything else slides down your arm. The leatt slid down for me. The tld elbow sleeves have not but you probably want the heavier version than the speed sleeve. I have heard the tp199 stay up relatively well too.
