Anybody know if the preload collar on the KTM’s linked bikes from 2012-2015 have the

Same thread pattern as the 2016 ones? I can buy some aluminum collars from a 2015 bike.. but want to make sure they will fit the 2016 shock before I pull the trigger. I don’t like that plastic collar at all… Thanks.

2015 part number says M56 and the 16+ description says M58 so I’m going to say it’s a no go.

There are various aluminum aftermarket options available.  Keep in mind the entire shock has to be disassembled to swap out the preload rings.  The bumper cup at the bottom is a bigger diameter than the body so the rings cannot be removed without disassembly.

Bud racing sells one for the 16+ bikes for $59. As FGR01 said, the whole shock needs to come apart to swap the preload ring but if you're planning ahead so that you can put it on during the next rebuild, it's a good thing to grab. Just remember that with an aluminum preload ring, the ring no longer looses when debris or tiny rocks get in there and you can potentially trash a body if it galls for some reason and you keep pounding on it. We never replace bodies on WP's for thread damage when they have the plastic preload rings but we do get a couple a year that got trashed from an aluminum ring when someone kept turning it or pulled out the hammer and punch when it suddenly got tight and hard to spin. As long as you're nice to it, the aluminum rings are a good thing to swap over to.
