Hey guys,
Riding a new CRF and want to try a wider seat. Just maybe a half inch or less on each side for additional grip area on the bike as i'm a taller rider. Any ideas on what could be used that will match the original seat foam? I was thinking some sort of mat, then just glue it on and re apply seat cover.
I tried to look for wider seats but all I found were tall seats, SUPER wide seats, and bumps. They are also very expensive for something I am just looking to experiment on.
I've tried doing some custom seat work. Fellow tall guy here.
I found the best source of foam is another motocross seat.
I use an electric meat carver for cutting the foam, then have tried a number of different approaches for shaving it to fine tune the shape. None have worked that great.
There is "foam glue" spray adhesive that exists.
I dunno, I gotta tell you I messed around with making my own seats for a long time and ended up just buying tall seat foam from Guts and am way more happy with that approach.
I started with a tall Guts foam and carved it down a little. A carpenters pull saw (Japanese style) did the big cuts quickly, then 60 grit on an orbital sander finished the shape. I took a couple hours to get it right, it wasn’t hard, just kept at it til it looked right.
have you looked into one of these?

Will you update us on what you ended up doing please? 6'4" rider thinking of getting a spray foam glue and using old seat to add my own wings / height. I have guts tall seats on 3 other bikes but they didn't really solve my issue when gripping with legs/knees the way I wanted. Winged seats werent available at the time. Haven't ridden for many years and I am getting a new bike and pricing my normal upgrades - complete tall seat at $585 with bump and wing!! Man I knew prices were going up on everything but getting back into motocross after a long hiatus and seeing the prices of many familiar items I used to buy often almost doubling was a shock. Thanks
I actually have not done anything yet! I would like to explore a few options just have had time.
my current train of thought is to buy this material: https://www.motosport.com/woodcraft-seat-foam-pad?variant[WFT1WUB]=WFT1… remove seat cover, then cut and glue on areas I’d like to beef up, then real install cover.
Unsure if that will work but that’s my plan!
