I picked up a set of barely used splits for cheap. Condition is like new so I’m quite happy with myself. 😂
I was expecting to drop existing rubber bar mounts into it when I noticed they had a solid insert in the bottom of them, where the rubber and bushing would go up from the bottom. Oddly they don’t have a matching upper cone, and the stock bushing is too large a diameter to go through the solid-ish bottom cone.
Did these come with a set of solid bushings from the factory and I’m missing the uppers? Or do I have some poor guy’s aftermarket lower cones and he hasn’t realized it yet?
I can’t find a parts list from WP for it.
Looks to be the OEM solid conversion kit (I've never actually see in, oddly enough). The bar mount sits in the recess in the clamps and the bolt goes up through that lower bushing and into the bar mount. This converts it to solid instead of rubber. No upper bushing is used.
You can just remove that lower piece and install the rubber cones as normal (as you probably already know as you've done it on the right side already).
The aluminium rigid handlebar clamp bushings (#A46001138010) that come with every bike in the bypack also fit on the split triple clamps...
Ha - thanks guys. Never considered converting to hard mount so that didn’t even cross my mind that it was the oem conversion.
On the old bikes without the recess in the triples you need both lower and upper cones so the mount can’t shift. Now that you mention it, I can see how the mount can now fit in the recess so that you don’t need an upper cone, as long as your mounts are really right. Not super confidence inspiring in a crash though, whole mount depends on about 2mm of aluminum on aluminum edge support. I’ll stick to the rubbers for now.
I´m using the X-TRIG PHDS on the Husky split clamps, also works perfect and a good compromise between solid mount and damping

Yeah, it's a pretty mediocre design at best. The fit between the mount and clamp is really loose to allow for tolerance variation and cheaper manufacturing, which makes it really sloppy. If you do want solid bar mounts, you can run the older generation cones in there just the same. The only difference on the new stuff is they machined a pocket into the top clamp to fit the bar mount. The cone is identical otherwise.
