Just picked up a 2022 CRF450 this week. I'm about to do my first oil change and the manual recommends honda gn4 10w30. I went to the dealer that I bought the bike from and sure enough they had none in stock. The salesman that sold me the bike said the dealer puts10w40 in all the bikes there. I know it shouldnt cause any issues, but can I get away with running a heavier weight oil for this next ride? This bike was too damn expensive for me to be unsure lol.
10w40 is all I’ve ran on my 250 and 450
Yeah the 10-30w is a little surprising when you read the recommended oil for a current 250R or 450R. I was a concerned about running 10-30w here in Texas as hot as it gets but some of the new cars run 5-30w, I’ve even heard some run 0-30w. I happened to find Maxima full synthetic 10-30w on sale a bought a few gallons for 2023 250R. Once I run out it will probably run 10-40w, lot easier to find. Thought about running Rotella T6 but will save that for my old YZF and to cook eggs in. Some claim the the current CRF’s rev slightly higher with 30w but I wouldn’t have a clue and I probably couldn’t tell.
Either one is fine. I'd use the full synthetic (HP4S) option rather than GN4 if you use 10-30
I’ve only ever ran maxima 10/40 in my current crf450 or any bike I’ve owned with zero issues

Revving higher would be dependent on the limiter. Maybe the revs build faster, but that is kind of dubious too.
to your question, I ran 10-40 in my crf with no issues and had a lot of respectable mechanics tell me to do so. It’s going to be fine. The only time you might need to go to 10-30 is if you’re riding in 30-40 degree weather.
