Bought my son a like new 2022 KX 85. Been out of the Japanese 2 stroke game for decades and was wondering what is everyone’s go too.

Most everyone is using something 100% synthetic or semi synthetic and 40:1 seems to be the common ratio. Maxima, Motorex, Motul, Red Line, etc. Lower flashpoint oils help for a full burn and less power valve clogging issues.
If your rider is starting to use the power properly, best to go for protection over cleanliness as you will need pretty frequent top-end rebuilds anyway.
I use Blud lubricants, but I've used Maxima and Motul in the past and they were good too.
Belray H1R has been my go to since I put a piston in my last YZ250 with a couple years of off and on riding and racing. I had been running H1R and the piston looked great. Just did my 1st piston on my 23 YZ125 at about 17 hours of racing 40+ vet class and again I am very satisfied with the protection from H1R
Yamalube 2r is really good.

I like H1R the best, but have had good luck with Maxima K-2 as well. I'd run 32:1 in a mini, or maybe 36:1. Whichever ratio you choose, stick with it as it affects jetting.
Spectro Platinum SX…
32;1 and super clean.
Any reputable brand will work... Just mix it at the proper ratio and use fresh gas.
Klotz R50 for me
And it smells great with VP!
Yes it does! I’m guilty of putting some in the lawn mower when I drain the bike!
I used Motul 800 in my last 2-stroke (02 CR250 in 2018). Extremely clean burning, but still had a very good film on the internals when I pulled the reed block to swap reeds. Zero carbon on the power valve, even after 10 hours. I was running it with VP110 (head was cut for it).
I've been using (and still use) Motul 800 for many years, on vintage and modern bikes, with very good results.
Now I'm trying out the Ipone Samourai Racing, with similar results to the Motul 800.
But, as said above, any reputable brand will work 😉
Yamalube. Runs very clean, no plug fouling. Mix the ratio at whatever the owners manual suggest.
"Guilty of?" I think you mean "credited with."
There's so many good pre-mixes on the market. I used Maxima 927 for many years without issue. I'm not a fast rider, but I ran the bike hard enough to not have issues with carbon build up. Add that to some VP and you have followers. lol
C12 and 927 hitting the nostrils early on a Saturday morning 🤌🏻
I switched to running only full synthetics oils mixed at 40:1.
927 for everything , my jon boat , 2 stroke bIkes, weedwackers.
