06 CR250R

Hey guys, just got me a new to me bike. Back in the day I had a 02 CR250 and loved it. So now that the kids have grown up, its time for dad to get back out there. Anyways, I picked up a 06 CR250R thats been bored to a 265, and has a hi-comp piston with a phathead on it. Also has a Scalvini pipe and silencer and lectron carb. I took it out this past weekend to a local track to work thru the paces. Well this bike is insane. Every gear no matter which one would bring the front wheel up. Made it damn near impossible to ride. What are some ways to tame this thing down? Smaller rear sprocket? Detune the carb? Anything you guys know of or have dealt with before?

Spoke wraps on front wheel will keep it down….or maybe just ride it some more?

Check ignition timing then maybe retard it a few degrees.  Would be cheaper and quicker than getting a lower compression dome, although that's not a bad idea to do if easing back the timing isn't enough.

Smaller rear sprocket tends to be a more marginal change and tends to just space shift points out a bit without doing much taming.  And if the tune is currently correct, I wouldn't alter that in an attempt to mellow out the bike as that would only end up making it rich or lean, which would be a compromise.

G2 Throttle Tamer. Big Long Silencer. Flywheel Weight. Extra base gasket (reduce compression - will alter port timing a bit though). Reed block spacer. Retard Ign Timing.

The 2006 CR250's have the electronically controlled powervalve. You could mess with the cable tension to delay powervalve opening? A Honda expert could confirm if this would work or not.

Compare current gearing to stock. Could drop 1-2 teeth on the rear.
