Side/Rib protection

So I currently wear the A-stars Bionic chest protector under my jersey. Yesterday I had a pretty bad front tire washout coming out of a turn at a pretty decent speed. I was slung off the bike and impacted a very hard edge on the last part of the berm. Ended up with severely bruised ribs and a big cut from my elbow to my wrist. My chest protector has good chest and back guards but not much for ribs. I have never worn elbow protection.

What do yall wear for rib or side protection that is lightweight? Anyone try these out before?

Don't know about side protection but g-form mtb elbow pads are comfortable and don't slide around like plastic elbow protection. I started wearing them on the mtb bike but got so used to them I wear them on motorcycles now too.

Thanks, I may get a set of those. Be nice not to be worrying about how to set my forearm down today on my desk without getting blood on everything. lol

I use this after breaking a few ribs last year.  Also have the sleeveless version.  The Fox Raptor looks pretty good also.  I am due for a chest protector, so I will likely get one of those and wear both.  Never want to go thru that pain again.

I've broken my ribs a few times now and in each case I was wearing a wrap around style full chest protector, and in each case my upper arm/ shoulder took the brunt of the impact with the ground, not my ribs. I guess the compression of my arm into my body caused the fractures? I could definitely feel a "crumpling" sensation in my torso as it was happening. All of that to say that I don't think chest pros help that much with preventing rib injuries (barring handlebars directly to the chest or something like that).

I never used elbow guards in my younger days but don't ride without them now. It's such a likely area to injure even in a minor fall that it just isn't worth it to go without. I use 100% MTB guards which offer good protection while being low profile enough to fit under the jersey. It took a while to get used to (feels like always having arm pump at first) but well worth it in the end.

That’s how  mine happened.  Fell on my arm, which then jammed into my ribs.   Broke arm and ribs.  Now wear arm/elbow guards as well as the football rib protectors.

I have always worn pad shorts like that shirt. That seems like a pretty good option too. i ordered the Elbow guards this morning. Probably the worst elbow and forearm scrape I have ever had. Easily avoided with a guard i would think. I have about gotten to the point i want to cover up it all. Just takes forever to gear up and its HOT!!!!!!!! Raced for years with no chest protector and only extra thing was knee guards. Comfortable but nowadays not worth it.

The term "I'd rather sweat than bleed" comes to mind 😐😆
