Not sure who needs to see this, but someone definitely does. 🤦

https://americanmotorcyclist.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/2025-AMA-Supercross-Rulebook.pdf

FYI - I don't like what went down in the 250’s one bit... but the fact is, rules are rules. With that said... One, two, or three parties are responsible for understanding, AND MAYBE - making sure the other parties understand the rules as well.

Each responsible party should be considered as...

AMA Pro Racing,

Every person entering an AMA SMX event, i.e.,  rider AND all members of the team, ...

And every member of the broadcast team! No ifs, ands, or buts! Example  - I don't want to hear about the exception of a reporter on the floor,  that has a comment to add, if they don't understand what it is they're reporting about!

If you don't understand the sport and the governing rules, why are these people getting paid to... 'do their job properly '  seriously !?!

At least AMA followed their own rules this time.

Another point in the rulebook regarding restarts: riders lapped remain with the same number of laps. Hampshire was lapped before the restart in Tampa, restarted in 21st, passed into 10th by the finish and was only credited with 18th.

1.7.8 ORDERING OF RESULTS
a. Race finishing positions will be determined according to the most laps completed in the least total time, whether the motorcycle is still active or not.

Looks like they added a "McAdoo rule" in 1.8.11 c. "Riders who failed to join the race before a red flag are barred from any subsequent restarts.", in order to prevent the rider who drew the red flag from lining up for the restart.

I believe they added this right after the Mcadoo fiasco at Atlanta.

Now they just need to update the stagger start with proper time intervals so a rider isn't robbed of a win through no fault of his own again.

Now that I think about it, seems like the wording is a little strange.  Why wouldn't the wording just be "riders who cause a red flag are barred from the restart"?

There is also the title 24 video with RC/Villo discussing it.     Villo says "robbed".

The rider was down for 3 or more minutes, if they waited 7 seconds....................

m. When a race is stopped after time has expired on the race clock but prior to the checkered flag being displayed,
the race will be deemed complete, and the following procedures will apply:
1. A red flag will be displayed. All Riders must stop racing and proceed with caution back to the paddock.
2. Scoring will revert to the running order on the last lap completed by all active Riders on the Lead Lap to
determine finishing positions.
3. The race will be deemed complete and provisional results will be posted

Maybe they missed the "cross" part of the communication...?

LIke, "throw the redcross flag"!

Fer cryin' in the mud!  Redcross would have been sufficient!  To go from yellow to red makes no sense, unless your the AMA...

That is not what that means. It means any rider who didn’t start the race before the red flag can’t join the race when it is restarted. A literal reading of the rule

So it is your interpretation, that a rider who causes the red flag could still restart the race?

The rule says nothing about a rider who caused the red flag so yes, based on how I read it. There has never been a rule about a rider causing a red flag not rejoining the race.

I think this rule is intended to prevent riders who qualified for but didn’t start a race from joining it. Think Dungey at Southwick, bike won’t start at the line, etc
