Indonesia is an expensive trip for most smaller teams or privateers and many can't commit to the fly away races like the Indonesia or South America rounds.

I hope that MXGP will finally find a way to have a couple GPs in Australia. West Coast and East Coast. A GP in Brazil, Canada and of course the United States. Replace some of these smaller GPs .This will have more entries and great attendance if promoted correctly. I guess there's more to it and not as easy as it seems to do but this should be their main focus. To not have a GP in the US, Canada and Australia is just plain stupid.

I agree.  They go to these smaller countries because they get paid to go there.

I am referring to fan base meaning dirt bike sales and participation

Hard to watch those fly away races with low turnout of fans and riders. The racing was good though.

Same old story MXA has complained about for years. Youthstream takes the huge fees they charge these 3rd World countries to hold a race and puts it in the bank.

They don't pay the riders any purse or start money, and zero travel money, etc for the teams.

By this time most of the Mx fans around the world should know how mxgp works.

Teams buy spots on the starting gate for a certain number of €.

When the big teams are done with that, the smaller teams buy their spots and then the privateers.

A couple of years ago it was around 1000€ for each race.

So with that knowlege it cost a shit ton of money to ride the GP’s, throw in that they don’t earn any price money and some races are held at remote places in the world.

That results in only the factory teams going to all the rounds. Then we have the smaller teams that only race the european races.

That’s why Alvin Östlund rode Southwick and Redbud instead of the GP’s in Indonesia. The JWR Honda team only race the Europan rounds so he did not actually ”skip” two GP races to be in the US since he would not have ridden them anyway.

So in the fly away races we often see the top 15 factory guys on the line and some local wildcard riders that get lapped on the second lap.

In European rounds we will often see a full gate of riders, but there will never be more than 40 riders that attend each class since they only qualify for the place on the gate, not to make the event. Just like F1 or MotoGP.

That is exactly what MXGP needs; GP's in Canada, Australia, Japan, U.S., etc. Those races would actually grow the sport.

Youthstream won't do it though, they prefer races third world countries desperate enough to pay for international events in an attempt to look normal. Huge money makers for Youthstream themselves, doing nothing for the sport, teams, or riders.

Indonesia is definitely NOT a third world country, but a NIC (newly-industrialized country). About 16% of the population lives below the "poverty line", which is the same percentage as much of the countries in the western world. According to some people here even Qatar was labeled as "third world". I'd suggest those people to read a newspaper now and then.

I understand and agree with you 100 percent. It's definitely a flawed system in my opinion. There's many ways to make a buck. Take the easy money for the short term or grow the sport long term like they do in Australia, Canada and US outdoor series. There is a way to be more profitable by going to these MX crazy fan bases by attendance, TV viewership, Sponsors and entries and growing MXGP in the end. But the quick check to go a visit a Island in Indonesia apparently is the easier choice

Don't believe those Wikipedia numbers.

Like China they are mostly BS stats to lure foreign investment.

Go outside the downtown areas of the top few major cities and you quickly figure out.........Indonesia is a 3rd world country.

LOL, what newspaper should I start reading for accurate info?......they don't exist.

You are going way overboard here. This is more about growing the sport and seeing full gates and helping the smaller teams. Not bashing or belittling a country that hosts a GP. I could have added New Zealand and Japan to AUS, Canada and US hosting events. But there's a limit . lol

There's poverty in every country and in every metropolitan city. Just because there are big social inequalities, it doesn't make a country "third world". The core of economy is different, but statistically speaking there is no difference between New York and Jakarta.

Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada, and US races are a no brainer. Full gates, fans in the stands, real tracks, etc might actually sell some bikes.

To actually easily grow the sport hold races in truly growing economies, Poland, Hungry, Romania, Brazil, etc.

I can tell you have never been....or read the wrong newspapers.......

It's 3rd world outside small areas of the top cities.

Dirt floor huts, no running water, no flushing toilets/open sewers, limitted access to proper schools, limitted access to healthcare...I could go on. If you knew more than Wikipedia stats you would not argue this...

Apart from the dirt floor huts, what's the difference with,... let's say.. New Orleans? An American criticizing another country about limited access to healthcare... Now I've seen it all.

Instead you praise Brazil for being a growing economic country. Have you ever been there? Have you seen the favela's? What's the difference with Indonesia then? Have you even been outside of the US?

Let me know when the U.S. has to pay to hold races..

Hint: Stop watching the BBC, Sky News, unelected E.U..or wherever else you get your info.

90% of Indonesia would move to New Orleans in a second if given the chance and would consider it heaven....

Brazil is certainly 3rd world BUT it has a motocross community. Racers will sign up who won't get lapped ten times in a moto, fans will buy tickets...

Brazil has held successful GP's way before Youthstream demanded huge fees from their goverment.

Newsflash: the GP-promotor in the 90s (Action Group) was owned by Giuseppe Luongo.

Paying a Fee to host GP is way different than a country cutting a check to the series to get a event. They do this and then still pay the event Fee

LOL, Please stop.

None of those races pay even close the fees a 3rd world totalitarian governments get charged..thats why Youthstream loves those races.

Do you honestly believe Matterley Basin, Lommel, Maggiora, St Jean d'Angely, Uddevalla pay those fees? Hint: They don’t…
