Can someone explain the differences between what I believe are three Arenacross Promotions (maybe MXR,GT,Kicker). The exact titles and what makes each unique, caliber of riders etc. Seems somewhat confusing!

GT is more centrally located, smaller tracks but great layouts. Amateur racing is always awesome. Michael Hicks has won pro class past 4 years I think, but he is no slouch, he can run Kyle Peters speed who is in Kicker AMA arenacross. Kicker has been redone to be more pro focused, similar to how it used to be back in the day, and they travel all over, lots of miles. By becoming more pro focused, in year 1 the amateur racing suffered. We will see how year 2 goes for amateurs seems like they made some positive changes. The only other one I know of close by is Mid South Arenacross and they run in and around Mississippi. More focused on amateur scene and doesnt get the elite pros.

MXR is smaller, but has a four race series in the upper midwest and starts this weekend in Cedar Rapids, IA.

The other 3 races are in Michigan and Ohio.

It is a shame they split up the series. 04-08ish era was awesome. Pros on the same night as the amateurs, packed house in our local hockey arena Friday and Saturday night. It was kind of intimidating racing in front of a full arena at first, but was awesome knowing how many people you knew in the stands.

After they moved the amateurs to Sunday the crowds really started to dwindle.

Yeah I agree. Those years of AX were some of the best years I had racing. If you qualified to go to the US open race in vegas at the end of the year, that race was a really cool experience as a kid. Golden years of AX for sure.

I miss the late 90's early 00's AX. Budman, Stephenson, Hoffmaster, Demuth, Lange, Brayton. riding both classes, season opener in Des Moines.

I went to a few back then. It was always exciting with great racing. We got to see the new bikes for the 1st time. They had the 125,s tuned to be real quick & snappy. The quickest pivot off a corner I ever saw . Was Chad Johnson batting his team mate Jeff Wilho who was great in his 1st yr. on TUF cr125 02,s  it’s on yt the Denver rnd. Not many back then didn’t race a A AX.  Factory Phil, 15 yr old Hansen crashed hard at Milwaukee.

Little off topic, but amateur arenacross is a format that is completely missing from Europe. I love watching local U.S. arenacrosses from Youtube with all the classes, looks so fun and there is always carnage.

Shoutout to Matt Burkeen, I think he has the best and funniest Arenacross videos by far

During that time there might’ve been a 50cc and a 65cc class on Friday and Saturday. AMA, PJ1, BooKoo, Amsoil and every other iteration have had Am Day on Sunday.

So to say that’s the reason is incorrect. There are a few reasons why AX fan turnout has dwindled, but above them all people just have too many options to be entertained. When AX was booming, there weren’t streaming services or social media.
