Hey guys, not sure if im supposed to post this here to tech help.....but I have a 2016 KTM 300 XCW and im looking for jetting recommendations.  The bike has a fresh top end, RK Billet Head, Gnarly, VForce Reeds and the Factory Keihin PWK carb.

I live in MA so im at sea level and tend to ride year round in tight single track (40F-85F).  A jetting configuration that I just need to adjust air screw would be the best but a needle change isnt bad either.

I have a JD jet kit as well as some factory needles and jets, so these are the 2 jetting profiles i was thinking of using what do you guys think.

Option 1

JD Needle Red(Summer)/Blue(Winter) 3rd clip

165 Main

38 Pilot

Option 2

N8RG Needle 3rd Clip

172 Main

40 Pilot.

Let me know what you guys think and please make recommendations, im still learning carb tunning

The engine tells you what you need, not a piece of paper. If the bike is running satisfactory why change anything. It's like going to the Dr. and asking for meds without telling him what is wrong.

Get the Suzuki needle!

I forget now what number it is (I can look it up) but do some searches, it’s been massively documented.

could be NECJ… I’ll grab my jet book when I go to the garage and let you know.

The bike is 8 years old- what makes you think what's already in there isn't a good starting point?

Run it, then decide if you need richer or leaner.

165 and 35 is stock. JD needles seem to get the job done in most cases. I would start there.

You beat me to it....As a joke, I was going to post a good long rant....and then end with:

"what.....really....this is not about Jett Lawrence......"

For those who remember the late-great Gilda Radner....

I've had several KTM and Husky 2-strokes since 2011. All, either XCW or TE models. Used Suzuki needles in all of them. Tried JD and stock needles, but always went back to the Suzuki needles. Since I ride primarily woods, the triple taper of the Suzuki needle provided the linear power delivery I desired, and were much less hassle to tune than the others. Additionally they typically run super clean throughout the entire range. Just easier to attain that sweet spot, so to speak. I ride from SL to appx 2500 ft in temps between 50 and 90. Airscrew tweaks is all I need in that temp and altitude range.

Fwiw, I had a 2016 250 XCW with an SX head and vforce reeds. This was the jetting spec I settled on.....Suzuki NEDH, 2nd clip, 40 pilot, 172 main. Motorex at 50:1. Tons of low end grunt and strong mid. It's far and away my favorite combo for the 250.

For my current 300(2018 TE-300) with a keihin pwk 38 and RK-TEK, I use the the Suzuki NEDW clip 2, with the 40 pilot and 172 main. Same as the 250, tons of low end and mid and runs clean throughout.

For more info on 300 jetting and Suzuki Needles, do a google search and you'll find days worth of reading.
