My son's 2013 TTR50 is smoking horribly bad and is running like shit. He did lay it over the other day and his air box is full of oil.
I bought this bike used and it has smoked since day 1 and gotten progressively worse over time. Any ideas what could be wrong with it? I'm hoping it's just the oil getting into the air box when he lays it over. If that's the case, any ideas how to fix this?

Once the bike is dropped, the crank case oil dumps directly into the air box, oiling down everything. I had one of those TTR's, but sold it. My next move was to get a small breather filter, and disconnect the vent from the air box. Clamp the filter to the vent line, and secure it to the frame. Get a vacuum cap /plug to cover the opening left in the air box.
Then it won't dump oil into the air box, just into the vent filter on the tube, which is much easier to clean.
Your bike is probably smoking because it has an accumulation of oil in the box / intake area. Going to have to remove the box and clean everything thoroughly, re- service the filter. Last time mine was dropped, even after a clean up, it smoked for about 10 minutes, until the residual oil all burned away.
Better check the oil level before your ride it.

If it's still not running/idling well, drill out the plug covering the air screw so it can be adjusted. I couldn't keep this bike idling to save my life and it had a bog off bottom until the engine was really hot. Found that the put a plug over the air screw for some odd reason. Drilled it out and adjusted, bike has run perfectly ever since.
Found a GYT jet kit for it. I only used the one step richer pilot jet, with the air screw plug removed. Instead of grinding on the starter for what seemed like eternity, with a bit of richness added to the low speed circuit, it would fire right up, and actually idle.
My only complaint was how stiff the shifting was.
Save yourself some yeadaches and buy a Honda.
