I am rebuilding a 2005 RM 250 and using a 2009 RMZ 450 front end. The bike came with a 450 fork already on it but they hacked some mounts on the stock RM lower clamp to bolt RMZ front fender. The stock RM lower clamp has steering stops on it that stop when touching a tab welded on the front of the frame and the RMZ lower clamp has stops built into the rear near pinch bolt mounts that probably stopped at bolts in the frame! I know a lot of people have done this conversion and wondering what they did to make this work without their bike being able to almost do bmx bar spins????

I did a 17 450 front end conversion on my 01 rm125.. Easiest thing is to have rm steerer pressed into rmz triple clamps. Then you can have tabs welded on frame to work with stops or can find where you want the stops and drill and tap bottom triple clamp to use a rubberized bump stop.

Can't talk to the RM's but Trick Engineering made a cool adapter that fits onto the stock stop on the kx250 that makes the new style lower clamp stops work. This allows you to put new style forks/clamps on the old steel frame bikes. Look a http://trickeng.com/product/kx125-250-steering-stop-adapter/

How does the newer front end compare? Did it affect the handling of the bike at all?
