I’ve always preferred a quicker turn throttle, but on my cr125/500 conversion, I need loooong. I get arm pump in my right arm something terrible just from trying to hold the throttle in a 1/4” window. I understand G2 makes a throttle assembly, but I don’t want to pay that much $$$ for to replace an already new throttle tube.

It would be awesome if somebody 3D printed cams for this throttle tube, or if somebody has any other cheaper fixes that’d be great.

You could always put the cam in a vice and reduce the radius with a file... use sharpie, and then set calipers at 0.5mm to mark a constant radius, then gently file away

I’ll probably given that a go

Just go in small increments and test fit to make sure it doesn't rub the housing

The odi lock on grips with the throttle tube isn’t all that expensive so I’m not afraid to experiment. I just don’t want to pay $100+ for the G2 throttle assembly and it still not have any options that coincide with my lackluster abilities as of late.

I think I have some extra two stroke odi cams somewhere you could have for free if you need to experiment on.

Customizing an Open Classers Throttle to what You want, is a very good thing, I kid you Not! Woohoo

My 2002 CRE500, I put a G2 on almost instantly - well, after the XR200 Throttle I'd used on my 500s previously , carked it. The XR200s, circa 82/83, had a Snail type throttle cam on their throttle tube, and we 500 riders in the know , held that control secret, very close to our chests. It was such an advantage to use - in All conditions and usages. But, I couldn't get one again way back in 2003. Sad

But, I found the G2 slow action cams too slow, at low throttle usage, and, you couldn't get full throttle / full slide lift with the slower turn cam. In my riding - single track, Enduro and, what people would now call 'extreme terrain'- you barely use more than a 1/4 of the throttle much of the time on a 500, but, when out in the open stuff, every now and then, you Do need all of the throttle when the blokes you are riding with are on 450 / 510 / 570 and up, 6 speed 4ts..... even a Old , 'fraidy Bear like me.........

So, I welded up the 2 slower turn cams, and experimented with their profiles. It took a fair few tries, and a few extra weld beadings and filings, to get what I wanted, and now I've used the same cam for the last decade and a bit. I have the very first part of the cam, quite steep (steeper than the quick action Cam the G2 came with), then it flattens out, then a final, small, steep / large diameter section.

As I mentioned earlier - be aware that some slow action cams, may not open the slide all the way. Even with my weld and machining / filing solution, in the previous sentence, I had to modify the 'stop' on the cam and throttle body, for just a tad more throttle turn, to get full slide lift, especially with my oval boring of the carb bore top section, to match it to where the slide actually can travel upwards to.

You'll find that with a bit of experimentation, something as basic as the Throttle / Throttle Cam profile, can make your 500 2T - well, any high torque / high HP bike, so much better to ride.

Maybe I’ll come up with a filed out plastic one I like that everyone likes! I don’t mind the 500 hit, it’s just in and out of the power at all the wrong time on a mx track. I’m going to change the gearing from 14/51 to 14/48 and try to smooth out the initial closed to 1/8 throttle. It’ll be sweet when I get it tuned in.
