Call Jeremy. Very nice individual and sharp. Im sure he would be more than happy to explain it. It is a very cool concept. I have thought about just buying it for my suspension that is already done by another company. It would be a great add on.

Smart performance is also very cool and Dave is a good guy.

Dave from Smart Performance used the forks from my KTM 144 back in 2008 to develop his Phase 4 stuff for KTM's. I think he had mine and a couple of other sets to play with.

Seeing I had just bought a 450, I didn't ride the bike very much after getting them back (about 6 hours total). It was very late in the season and I wadded the bike up in the third moto with the new forks, and a guy cased my bike putting it out of commission for the remainder of the year. I did go down south the next spring and put the above mentioned 6 hours on them, and I will say I was very happy with what Dave did to them. I'm sure his kit has been refined even more since then, so I would recommend them without a doubt.

There is one big downfall. The oil. If you live in a cold weather climate, shy away. I didn't have any problems, as my bikes stay in a heated shop, but a friend of mine has an issue. I'll let him explain the problem on here.

Nice setup Troy! I wasn't going to post anything since Dave and I have been emailing Dave back and forth and I'm comfortable with the explanation and how I can avoid the problem moving forward. To this point, I've only seen this with the SPI-5, or the outer chamber oil. I haven't had any issues with the SPI-3 oil.

First off, I live in Wisconsin, aka, a big f'in freezer for half the year! My garage is insulated, but that doesn't keep it warm enough to have water freeze. Nothing else freezes in there.

I like to have extra fork oil around, so if I have a fork seal go, I can replace and put fresh oil in ASAP. Dave's SPI-5 oil doesn't like to sit on the shelf when the temps and humidity change like they do in the North. This isn't a one time deal for me. The first time I worked with Dave, I actually put the oil in, so I had extra left over. I put it in a cabinet in the garage and forgot about it. The next spring, separation. Last spring, I had my sons RM85 redone by Dave, but I bought extra oil to freshen up my other sons YZ125.. The extra stuff separated over this winter. You can shake the oil to get it to seem like it mixes back in, but Dave said to not use it, it is toast.

Dave has assured me that the oil that is already in the fork that has time to work in is OK. The friction modifiers bond to the metals in the fork. He also has an open account for me to replace the 2 bottles that went bad. He said the from now on, I should store my excess oil in the house where the temperature is more constant and it won't happen.



All this being said, I will continue to use his oil, I will just not store any oil in the garage anymore. Dave has been nothing but totally honest with me during all of this and is a stand up guy. You don't find too many people like this in the world anymore!
