How hard is it to replace fork seals? I am fairly capable with tools, I never take any of my cars to a mechanic for any type of work, I have replaced a motor in a car, etc. The guy at the shop kinda scared me away from trying when I asked him, but the problem with him doing it is he wants around $200 to do the job if I leave the forks on the bike. I figured he just wants the work. So, is it a complicated job for someone that has never done it before? If not, are there any special tools I will need?
Best bet is to buy some beer for a friend that has done it before. Have him show you the ropes. Beyond that its not hard just another process to learn. I went the route, learning from a friend. The manual makes sense after you follow what the hell is going on. I have never done KYB so maybe they are easier then Showa.
They aren't hard to do if you have some mechanical aptitude and can read the manual. I have found some decent how to stuff on various web pages also.
