In the market for a new bike....need some advice:

Up until now, Ive rarely ridden dirt, never been on a track. Mostly ridden Glamis, always on a 250 2 stroke. I can ride the hell out of the 250 in the sand, but get me on dirt, and its a lil much of a bike (im 5'9" 150lbs). I had no problems on my KX125 but that bike was a no no for the sand.

Im still gonna do Glamis most the time, but I wanna start hitting up Pala and Cahuilla.

My friends whove seen me ride, think I would do fine on a 450....Im a lil intimidated by it tho. They also say that I'd have more fun and a 250f would be easier to ride on the tracks. Which brings me to my first question:

1) Will 250f's get wrecked the same way a 125t does in the sand...Should 250f's avoid Glamis?

If not, then the 250f is my easy choice, Im in love the the new RMZ:

2) Will Suzuki actually release a 2010 RMZ250? Every dealer Ive spoken to is worried that they may not go into production due to economy.

If not, then Im going to look into a 450. Which solves the Glamis issue, and if I pick up a leftover '09, I can save a ton of cash as well.

Anyone seen any RMZ450's for insane deals? Whats your opinion on it compared to the CRF450R? (I got one local to me for $6k otd brand new). I love the feel of the Zooks, but the Honda is close, especially since they went with the newer narrow frame.

any input would be appreciated. thx

btw....I forgot to mention that EFI is important to me.

Im not opposed to the 2010 CRF250R as an alternative to the 2010 RMZ250 but if I can pick up a new '09 450 for about $1500 less than a new '10 250f, the savings are tempting.

I would go with a 450, You will get use to the power after awhile. You can lug it and go WFO.

thx, thats what im leaning towards.

im gonna go ride my buddies crf450 tommorow at a track, and my other friends 250f in glamis on new years. make a comparison.

the 2010 250f's w/EFI look sweet but i just cant see spending 7500+ on a bike right now.

6k on a 450, and i can go sell my kx250 for easily 2k means im only out of pocket 4 grand.

now its just a matter of RMZ450 or CRF450?

too bad that ktm 350 isnt out yet, that would be the answer to all my problems.

The sand will have the same affect on a 2tk and 4 stk except the 4 stk will cost 3 times as much to repair.

Slightly different tact, but what about a flywheel weight on your existing 250 2-stroke when you're not at the dunes. Slap a 13oz weight on there, and it'll smooth the hit out nicely.

When you want to spray some sand, yank the ffw off.

Another idea- get the 250F for the track and pick up a clean KX/CR/KTM 500 for putting the hurt on people in the dunes? They can be found for cheap, need minimal maintenance, and there's nothing like shifting up and accelerating up hills that have everyone else downshifting just to barely clear the top.

Geez, I ride a YZ250F, motor is well modified, flywheel weight for the woods, still rides good on a MX track, I go play in the sand in South Dakota, you just learn to keep it rolling and it will fly along with the big bikes ok. Just no 90mph ride for sure. Plus my YZ has been a TimeX for sure, went a 148 hours on one rebuild. They make so many cool products for the 250's to go fast where ever you ride I'd look at fixing up one of those for another year or two, then EFI will be out on all the 250's and you can shop for a 1 year old for a good deal then.
Heck with a cool set of DeCal works graffix on that thing, it will look so fast you will have a hard time staying on it!!!!LOL!!!
