Hi all

my 09 rmz 450 was running rought about a month ago...it would start but then it woukld cough backfire and would not rev out..

its issues got worse to the point it wounld not start...it had fuel and spark !!

the orginal loom had a few suspect bad wired so we replaced the loom and bingo it started first kick...ran mint for a week then the problems came back again.....

the wiring from the fuel pump was a little suspect so i rewired it , solidered it and heat shrank it...........bike ran perfect again....

now latest bit is i washed it yesterday.... dried it off fired it right up to dry it off..bike ran mint

went to track today and after 5 laps its back to running rough...backfiring coughing and not revving out..... i swapped the gear sensor, bottom coil with crank sensor and trottle position sensor.....stripped all connectors clean and inspected them..plug cap the lot...still no joy.....

wat do ye think....cdi going bad??? i am honestly lost on this

Sounds like you may have a bad regulator/rectifier causing an inconsistent delivery in the electrici pulse coming from the stator which may be why wires are going bad.

Sounds like the fuel pump is taking a dump.

Start with disconnecting the kill button 1st. Then spark plug cap (I like to start with simple and easier things 1st) and you have checked a lot of other things all ready.

Hi Guys Darryl here

I registered there instead off using facetube to log in...

i tried the kill switch new plug new cap. stripped every connector wd40 them and blew them out with the air line...still no joy. they all looked mint as the loom is brand new 2hrs on it

could possibly be the rectifier alright as it had broke off the frame 2 months ago and i had it cable tied on to frame behind the rad....i got the bracket rewelded to the frame and remounted it in the stock position....so its possible it had been damaged???

what makes u thinks the pumps on the way out should it not work or just stop?? i connected it to a 12v supply and is pumping good

bike has maybe 100hrs on it and motor has less than 20...complete new motor in june

any other taughts...help is much needed....... rmz450 is in low no's in this part of the world every1s on crf's and ktms

Was rectifier grounded to the frame when you welded the bracket back on? See if you can borrow another one and go from there.

When the bracket broke it was grounded to the frame when it was cable tied on!

I left it into the local dealer to get welded so i dont know if it was grounded during the process.

What symptons would a bad rectifier or capicitor give

Hi Guys

just to update ye

left the bike to main dealers. turned out to be a throttle sensor on the injector that was intermittingly acting up. replaced it and its mint now

its only the 2nd one they've ever done
