I dug this up when going through old slides. 1971, 13 years old. Shot about 4 pics with my dad's Ansco at my first MX. :D

That was great. You have taken some real nice photos. Do you have any more of Joel?

I wish. I totally screwed up the photos I took the next year; nothing came out. Pity, because the '72 races were epic. Robert was there, but that was his last year to the states (at least by the late Trans AMA rounds).

Too bad. I just emailed him the one you posted. He should get a kick out of that.

That's where the track dropped back out to the start straight, it wasn't as wide elsewhere.

Has some enormous hills there.

Kinda sounds like Cuhuilla MX park, the modern nirvana of old-school mx tracks.

I've never been to Cahuilla, but the hills at Carnegie come off the valley floor forever. There are some sick hills there, and the old track ran them, and they dropped off steeper the last 100 feet or so. Made for great up hill jumps and drop offs on the way back down. Pretty amazing seeing the short travel bikes fly. mThey did hacks in '72, and that was mind blowing.

The Hacks that raced at the USGP in Carlsbad were pretty funny to watch.

Oh and Cuhuilla is like mammoth without rocks.
