RM 80's from '87 until '91? Looks like big bikes about '92. That '93 RM 250 was scary.
Was the '89 or '90 the first year for the powervalve on the 80?
I raced a '90 then in '92 I got a new '93 RM 80. I raced it for half of '93 and then my dad got me a used '92 RM 125.
That winter we picked up an almost new '93 RM 125 and 250 that I raced for '94. Weird that I ended up racing every size of '93 RM. Finished 3rd at the first RM Cup in '95. Suzuki was great....good contingency....free Tony D School. They did the Good Scholar program and gave kids $500 Savings Bonds if you maintained a 3.0 gpa.
I always used 135 because that was what I understood was my # per the AMA (last 3 of your AMA number). So the #12 was before I got my AMA membership.
I feel very blessed to have been as fortunate as I was throughout my racing days. I grew up in what I considered a hotbed of MX with Big Dave Coombs and family as close friends. You can see Big Dave in the picture on the High Point starting line in the top right wearing all blue with his hands on his hips. The guy in short jeans shorts yelling is Mike Sweat (Josh Sweat's R.I.P. father). We moved to Georgia when I was in 8th grade and I got to ride with Matt Walker, Shea Bentley, and Ricky Carmichael on a regular basis. RC and I both rode at a track in Monticello, FL that was private. We had some really fun "block pass" games out there!
And WPARk... I love that old Simisalo gear!
I haven't had a bike since I left for college in 1996. Being 34 now, I'm really getting the itch again and just started coaching a kid here locally. They have a great track about 10 minutes away from my house so I'm gonna start looking for an early 2000's RM 250 so I can go have some fun.
