my company has picked up 5 construction jobs in the last 6 weeks- 3 by yours truly

I got one today for 1.3 million - only left $3700 bucks on the table

DAMN THAT OBAMA!!!!!!!!!

The crappy part is that we actually have dropped off a little bit over the last six months. It's a bad thing when the beer business drops off. Of course Michigan is really screwed up right now. There is currently a mass exodus from the state going on.

To be fair Dean, the contracting opportunities have been the same since the Bush administration. With the addition of the ARRA, it has just made more work for everyone. While there are additional opportunities due to the Stimulus dollars, the competition has increased and created a huge lag in the system. Ask your contracting officer how they feel about the ARRA. Be sure to duck after you ask.

I can't seem to land anything.

The low-ballers are so low that I'd have to take money out of the bank to complete a job if I got it.

I bid a job yesterday, to a GC that uses my company exclusively.

They received two unsolicited bids for painting.

One was within a few hundred dollars of mine, and one was forty percent lower.

The estimator at that painting company obviously screwed up, but he also obviously sent his screwed up number to every GC bidding the job.

My GC called him to qualify his number, and the idiot said he has everything covered.

Now they either use that guys number, or risk being $12,000 high.

What a clusterfuck...
