I'm all for it. I travel alot in my business and I can't count how many times I've been moved out of my lane by a trucker on a cell phone,,, They don't seem to be as professional as they were in the 60s or 70s......

Maryland has already banned cell phone use by all drivers.

I don't care if people talk on their phones while driving as long as they don't block me by camping out in the left lane going the same speed as the person in the middle lane while talking. That makes me want to give them a little push.

What is it about people schooling together while driving. You get someone coming up on you, you move over to let them by, then they pull up and parallel you.

And when I run my route truck, I can't tell you how many times I've had to take evasive action to dodge a dumb bitch putting on her makeup or some office monkey in a tie fucking around with his phone.

Some people can talk and drive and others can't. Problem is, those that can't seem to think they can. I had a cop trying to share my lane the other day because he was playing with the phone and I regularly have issues with them driving and playing with their computer.

I just finished reading an article on talking on cell phones and the risk factor associated with it. The jist is that talking/ listening on a phone actually reduces (with hands free device) the ptoential to be involved in an accident. It is the non talking/ listening functions that get you into trouble. IE reaching for phone/ headset and dialing the phone.

Texting and e-mail/internet use obviously make your chances of crash/event involvement skyrocket.

Truck and bus drivers are 42% less likely to have incidents than "other" drivers.

Like a lot of things, I think these are all issues that would be better addressed on a state level.

Circumstances are certainly different in Wyoming then they are in New York City.

I don't understand why they would not allow hands-free devices.

They are no more of a distraction then talking to a passanger.

The big problems I see are texting and now internet surfing while driving.

Until they come up with some voice operated way to text then there is no way to do it without being distracted.

I find it easier to set my laptop on the console in my truck and wireless tether it through my phone. Then I have a full keyboard and screen to use.

My phone has voice recognition. It is damn near perfect. I text, email and Skype while driving-stopped at traffic lights....never touch the keyboard....other than "send". I also hang up on people if the traffic starts to get testy and requires extra thought.

Gotta love the world revolves around me attitude. If you're going to ban cell phones while driving do it to everyone, not just truckers. They're not as professional as they were in the 60s or 70s because they're more overworked, underpaid and less skilled than ever.
