A guy in my unit was in a VTC with some of the NASCAR drivers. One of those deals where they show the guys in Iraq during the race. He had a good talk with The King himself, Richard Petty. Petty pulled his trademark hat off his head, signed it, and it showed up in the mail today! This thing is the real deal. It's custom made by Charlie 1 Horse hats and is stamped inside "hand made for Richard Petty". It even still has a folded up paper towel inside the leather band that he uses to keep the felt from soaking through. We have a few NASCAR nuts over here and they have been worshipping this hat since it arrived. People are clamoring to get their picture taken in it. Apparently, The King is pretty fond of his hats. He doesn't change them out often and he rarely gives them away. This guy would never sell this thing in a million years, but I'm thinking it's probably a pretty valuable souvenir. We all think it's pretty awesome of Petty to take the time to look after us.
That hat is priceless.
