So this weekend I did a time trial. 20K on the bike flat out as fast as you can go. I am not really used to riding like that, most of my miles are longer and slower. This is more or less 30 minutes at an anaerobic level. Makes for a rather painful day. But, I ended up second in my age group. I missed my start time, like a dumb ass. Riders take off every 30 seconds and you are assigned a time to leave at. Well, if your watch isn't with theirs, its easy to be off by a few minutes. And if you leave late, your time is just added into the overall time. But, its just for training, so no big deal either way. My official time was 33:58 I think. Which was at 22 mph average. I was about 2 minutes late, so I was around 30:25 or so. Real average of about 24.5. So needless to say, I got yelled at a little bit by my coach later that day. Which turned into a long ass run that night.

I had a time trial myself this past weekend. Only mine was sandwiched between a 5k run and a swim. Ive got a buddy that runs much faster than me (about 4 minutes faster) in the 5k. I still managed to run him down on the bike at about mile 7.5 on a steep climb that had us both bonkin bad. Then he almost caught me in the swim. I ended up beating him by 2 seconds LOL It doesnt get any sweeter than that.
It was a small race (100 max) and Michele Jones (2006 Ironman Hawaii womens winner) showed up and schooled us all.

12 mile run hurt very much that night. And I wondered why my legs were trashed yesterday when I rode.
I was hoping to be but I have an off road 10k run down at Black Mtn in San Diego the same day.

I did my own sprint-tri 2 weeks ago (shortened version with swim first, not last).
500 yard swim, somewhat easy if I go slow in the pool. Push it a little and 1/2 way through I feel like I'm going to choke.
5 mile bike ride (normally 10 for sprint). By mile 3 my ass was numb as hell.
2 mile run (normally 3 for sprint). The first 1/2 mile after the bike ride is extremely hard for my legs to adjust. Once they do, I zone out and just go.
At 40, I feel in better shape than when I was 30. Not where I want to be just yet, but sure feel good right now.

Thats great to hear. Normally the swim is first, but they run them backwards (usually) when its a pool swim because its easier to get everyone thru the pool when they come in at different times off the bike. You do want to take it ez in the swim because in most any tri the swim portion takes a lot less time than the other disiplines and the difference between your best swim time and an easy pace isnt that much and its better to get out of the water with some energy especially considering you have 90 % of the race to go
Now get your ass out there and enter a race and get yourself a tee shirt. And dont think your too manly for a mini tri (the pool swim ones) because when you put the swim at the back end of the race it doesnt have to be long to hurt really bad. When you climbed in the pool the other day to do your 500 yards your Heart Rate was probalbly around 70 bpm. In a backwards tri you may be getting off the bike and running to the pools edge only to look down and see your HR hitting 165 or better....that makes swimming a totally new experience much akin to drowning. Have fun
