^^ That's awesome ! And no they don't let you keep the left over parts do they ? I really wanted my failed hip implant but there was no way, I couldn't even look at it. Glad you're on the healing side instead of the waiting side. Good luck, do your pt, heal fast and keep us updated !

Thanks, even with the surgical pain I can tell the arthritic pain is no longer there. Wednesday on the way home from Atlanta we stopped for food (chicken sandwich). Wednesday night I started getting sick at ~30 minute Intervals for 6 hours. It seemed like run of the mill salmonella except every time I wretched it felt like the surgery area was exploding with pain. That was pretty bad but everything else has been remarkably good.

I’ve been walking since to day of the surgery. I’m leaving now for the first PT session after missing last week due to food poisoning (or stomach virus). I walked a lot outside yesterday and today the pain is a little worse than yesterday. But it’s not big pain or anywhere near the pre-surgery levels.

Today I’m cutting the narcotic pain meds to 1/4 dosage then stopping completely after tonight. I’ve stayed well below the prescribed dosage and still had crawly skin last night after not taking any in the afternoon. That shit is rat poison.

Many thanks for all the advice, Sumdood. Maybe it’ll be healed enough to get in the surf when the storm season starts and the occasional hurricane or TS gives us some decent waves.

How's it going ? Just wondering. Yesterday I went for a dual sport ride, it was the first time in years I was able to throw my leg over the back fender and lift my foot onto the kickstarter with no issues or pain. Sound like such a simple thing but it was a big deal to me lol. Hope it's going good

That’s good to hear about the dual sport ride. I plan to pickup a DS bike sometime in the near future. I can 100% relate to the leg over the seat part. 2 days before my surgery I took my KTM 200 for a couple of laps around the block since it’ll be while before I can ride again. I had to stand on the bumper of my truck and lower myself onto the bike, ?. I need to get a softer, more compliant seat since I’ll now be able to sit some while riding.

It’ll be 2 weeks tomorrow. I’ve had an increase in pain and a lot of swelling for 3 days. The Physical Therapist, and she’s a very good one, peppered me with questions today about my activities. She stressed to back it down at least 50% and let the body heal. Where were you with pain and swelling at 14 days post-op?

Thanks, I appreciate you checking in.

I’m digging out this thread for an update in case anyone is considering surgeries. I had a Total Knee Replacement on 29-Nov-18 following a Hip Replacement 3-July-18. Both on the left leg. I went camping and mountain bike riding last weekend without any pain. Just a little swelling on the knee after the first day of 3 hours of single track. I only wish I’d gotten the leg fixed a couple of years ago. In a couple of weeks I’ll be back on the dirt bike.

Good info, been suffering with arthritis in my right hip due to scoliosis. Getting worse, hard to even sit any more. I am a mess, they wanted to fuse my spine, I passed on that. now the hip is bad along with arthritis in my knee as well. Aging is tough. I wore a lot of stuff out running for the past 15 years with all the misalignment form my spine.

On 31-Dec’19 I had my second hip replacement surgery. There’s more pain with this one although it’s really not that bad. At 53 yrs old I have two aftermarket hips and one knee. Maybe that’s it for a while. This time they let me keep the bone part they cut off so I can mount it on my hiking stick.

Wow, dude, that is crazy. Robo-man!
I just have one fake hip. Works great, although they tell me it might need replacing at some point. Now my good hip hurts- I think it's compensating for the other one.
I see all kinds of guys getting knees and hips that never touched a dirt bike, so might as well ride while we can.

The 6 month Post-Op x-ray on my artificial hip showed how bad off my biological hip had become. ImI’d not noticed much pain until I saw the x-ray displaying all the bone deformation due to arthritis. After seeing it I felt big pain everyday. Funny, huh?

How will you know when your artificial hip needs to be replaced? I’m with you on not restricting activities and keeping riding dirt bikes. Life’s too short to limit things.

Alright guys, mid 40's here and my hips have been bothering me for about a year (aching feeling on outer sides). I've been wondering why my hips have been aching so I google'd thinking I'm getting arthritis or something...

Not sure what it is, but I'm thinking it's from sitting on my ass for 16hrs a day at the desk and not moving enough...my quads, gluts, and lower back are very weak now from all the sitting. Could it be that I just need to start exercising these muscles again and the aching will go away?

Have any of you not had any serious injury and just had your hips go out from aging?

Sorry to hear about your pain. I could write a book of helpful information after all the mistakes made and a few good decisions leading to the many orthopedic surgeries on my medical chart. I had a big trauma to one leg at 18 yrs old and then a lifetime of activities that are hard on joints.

My best advice is to find an Orthopedic Specialist you are very comfortable with and have an examination with x-rays. If you have bone-on-bone/arthritis then the x-rays will plainly show it. Try PT, yoga, and any other non-narcotic treatment before opting for a replacement. Just don’t suffer thru long-term chronic pain needlessly to remain biological.

Try not to sit so long. They say sitting is the new smoking so you’re up to 2 packs a day. (I have a similar job and understand the challenge)

Does anyone know the best way to preserve a bone? I have the end of my femur they cut off in December and want to mount it on a hiking stick. A nurse told me to scrape off all the tissue, clean it with bleach and then sundry it. That’s a lot of work. A neighbor said to just push it in a fire ant hill and they’ll eat all the tissue and bone marrow. It’s currently in our freezer and the Warden said it has to go.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Wow they do things different where you live, I wanted the BHR implants they took out when I had my right side revised, I thought they'd be cool paper weight desk decorations but they wouldn't give em up. Hell I didn't even get to look at them. As far as preserving the head of your femur I have abso-fucking-lutely no clue, and I'd be a little leary of someone who did actually..... Laughing Good luck and post a pic of the walking stick when you get it done, that's going to be cool as shit, a little creepy, but pretty damn cool !

I remembered the end of my femur was still in my freezer so I pushed it into a fire ant hill in my pepper garden. How long do y’all think it will take the ants to strip all the tissue off the bone?
