Car charging question?

Edited Date/Time 5/23/2022 10:57pm
ok,

i know driving distance is a huge issue with (EV)

let it be known i have no idea how this tech works but i had a stupid thought, (not sure if its even possible)...

they make wireless chargers for devices now days

Could this eventually lead to a way to charge (EV) while your driving? incorporate the tech into the paved high way roads or even on the side markers on highways that way as you drive it is charging at the same time? i would imagine it would not keep a full charge with the battery but could add miles per trip to it?

Well first off a phone charges at about .5 amp, and a car charger is around 40-50 amps.

Need some type of inductive charging built into the roads so the cars can charge while they drive.

It's not the worst idea ever. In fact, it wouldn't be too difficult; just create a small magnetic field around the roadway somehow (magnets, maybe?) The motion of the induction charger onboard the car through this field would create a current.
Of course, the flip side would be that we'd be saddled with more taxes to pay for it.

this is kind of my thought process...

Maybe harness the energy of the wheels going around. I put my vehicle in neutral at stop lights you burn less gas. Get the tire pressure up . Throw some under drive pulleys on, spacers for injection system, hotter coil, tune up, play with timing , port the intake, kn, free flow muffler, wax entire vehicle including the roof, rain x the windows, install
New wheel bearings. I got 29 mpg with a g20 Chevy van running non ethanol gas in a 30 mph wind driving 75.

Possible, yes. Probable, maybe. I could see this in parking spaces instead of on the road, so you pick up a charge when parked easier than having plug in stations.
Edit: current wireless charging systems require <10 inches between the charger and battery which would be tricky in the road.

I have always wondered why are these electric shitboxes not covered with solar panels, let the car owner pay for the charging and not everyone else.

Likely due to most EV's have rather large batteries that would take weeks, or longer to charge via solar panels

Although here is one mfg that have a unique hi-tech lightweight 3 wheel EV

This is already being tried in small test areas, not sure what sort of results that they are having just yet, though.

What I think would/should be the next 'breakthrough' would be to incorporate a battery back under the floor of dry vans that would work to increase the range of a semi. Use the battery power of the tractor unit along with the trailer unit to to get into the 4 digit ranges, and that really makes them a lot more feasible.

Ford has bought stretches of highway just for this reason. Placing more charging ports in parking areas won’t be the long term answer. This places too much strain on the power grids with some areas already over worked. I’d say we see some form of mobile battery pack charging boost for an extra 100 miles or so. In the end I think the roads will play into constant recharging down the road. Or we develop better battery technology

wireless (at this time) charging uses 20-30% more energy compared to direct connection.

thanks for all the info guys, if this tech works maybe it could be implemented into the mx track as well to keep the bikes charged?

Yes, but during testing it seems that wired charging is no more efficient
Interesting avenue of development for sure

Still have to power it, and does it just stay running all the time?

The batteries under the trailer would fall from the impact of hitting all the potholes and if that don’t do it the forklift operator will knock some more off. The roads r a disaster. I don’t see a road side charging system happening. How would that work when it’s covered in 4 feet of snow. The largest electric charging system is at a flying j in Pecus Texas. Where enough oil to power the world for 10,000 yrs is.

It does work in snow, don't know about the rest
