Ah, but it was good enough, and we're going back to the moon within the next couple of years. We (the US and other countries) have been back to the moon several times since 1969 (and before 1969) with unmanned landers and satellites. We (the world) has also landed on other planets many times since 1969. Current goal is to create permanent bases on both the moon and Mars in the next 5 or 6 years. The "tech" is there. The problem is, it takes a huge pile of cash and national desire/dedication/committment to make it happen. That's what has been lacking since 1969. Now, with newer resuable tech, the cost of doing that could come down significantly to where private entities might be able to achieve this. See Elon Musk.
