It will never be big enough to get those kind of purses without a TV package comparable to that of NASCAR, which has some form of the sport going 24/7 on TV

MX is great live but it sucks ass on TV and is only watchable by hardcore MX fans...which totals around 100-200K in the U.S.

It would take a total revamp of the sport as we know it to ever make it a desirable package for the general public to watch. These riders should feel fortunate to be making what they do considering the lack of TV revenue

My God we can't even get it off the shit standard definition station MAV TV. I love MX but I find it hard to watch that blurry shit they serve us

BTW HB....had any good sex with any relatives lately? If so how bout some pics

Have a good weekend HB

Funny how racerx posted up the money in nfl TV revenue and then moto protects the numbers in moto like its top secret!

Oh yeah "nobody makes money in moto, from the TV exposure!"

The demand for moto is way up! For years they keep bragging about viewership for the TV shows.

How much do you think it costs just to get to the race and make the main ? A shit load more than it costs to go to and race a national MX.

Awesome find 713N, now maybe these jokers will quit trying to compare MX to NASCAR or Indycar or NHRA.

The demand for moto is way up? Got to Pay NBCSN to put it on the air...

NASCAR Meanwhile, has a 10-year deal (2015-2024) with NBC, it's worth $4.4 billion... Nascar is receiving not
paying...

Look what all that money did to STOCK car racing. They hide from the rain, they are forced to have the "same" car.

When was the last time you can remember seeing a knock down drag out, block passing, rubbing-is-racing, go- back-to the-pits-and-ice-your-bruises, Moto long battle for a win?

Even the a division like the 250 class has nothing like we used to see in the 125 class.

Not looking to start a 2vs4 battle but today's racing sure lacks, well, racing.

As far as not being good as a spectator sport on TV, does anyone else feel like they should stick GoPros on every rider and interject more POV footage into the broadcast? I reckon it's a hell of a lot more interesting to watch from that perspective, really gives you a feel for the speed they're going and the obstacles they're dealing with. Obviously dirt getting on the lenses is an issue but if every rider was wearing one there would be enough clean footage to interject into the standard broadcast and vary things up for viewers.

Case in point: this
Even non moto fans would get hyped up watching footage like that!

It's been said this year that they do not have to pay anymore and might even be getting a little bit of money. But it's not much.

It costs much, much more to run a NASCAR program than moto.

So how much do they get per race over 10 years?

Moto receives sponsor dollars from sponsors to have the TV program, so the sponsor can be seen by the viewers.....it doesn't cost them to do TV!

Do they get enough to pay for the TV show and turn a profit? You don't know until they publish those numbers, so you don't know.

Since they protect "their series" with guns and knives, you would have to assume they are turning profits!

The start and park cars are making some good money but like this weekend you have about 5 cars that will go home, that is a hell of a expensive weekend.

It just amazes me that there is money like that.

Indycar is like the moto of 4 wheel racing.

Well the promoters could try to widen their eyes and not only look at the US market. Watching MX/SX(especially MX) is a pain in the ass from Europe. Youthstream does a lot of thing shitty but thank god for mxgp-tv.com!

The team pays for all the stuff to race and the driver collects the 185K. Im not trying to compare the two but I have been saying for a long time that the Moto guys are not getting what they deserve. Somebody is making money and its not the riders.

In most cases, the driver negotiates and brings the sponsor money with him to the team.
No sponsor... no ride.

I think that would help a lot. To me watching F1 can be really boring as it is very similar to moto as you can easily pick the podium every week and there is very rarely any side by side racing for more than a few seconds

However when they do go to the in-car in a F1 race it gets pretty exciting to watch

You think Hillbilly? I would say it used to be before they changed the rules. Now Indy car is very similar to NASCAR where the races are very close with the top ten within seconds of one another at the finish. Did u see the Fontana race this year?

I hate to see it being done but I think it's time for some major rules/tech/mods deal to be put in place to try and even the playing field or I have a feeling this is a fast sinking ship. The local moto scene is crumbling since the 4 strokes came along and it's driving the common man out of the sport due to cost. Once that happens the Pro side of it better start being must see TV or it's going to slowly die off too. Less participants locally means less interest in the Professionals

Last year our local track had a race day where if you brought canned food to donate you were able to race for free. The turnout was amazing from what I heard. So without a doubt there is a financial factor at work here (I stayed last night at a Holiday Inn Express) but there is more than just money keeping our attendance down.

Track layout. Before they changed our local track into a track to get people reading for LL (we have two racers there now) we had 15 vet racers regularly. Now in the aftermath of adding a couple of jumps and whoop section only THREE racers show up.

Not everyone wants to be the next RC or RD.

In other words that is sponsorship dollars....To get the word out about the Navy, Army, National Guard, Marines to young Nascar fans you have to pay to get your name on the hood or quarter panel just like Tide, AARP, Geico ect.

There are action sports athletes that look at moto and consider the guys with rides to be the haves, not the have nots. It's all relative.

Id rather watch fishing than nascar. The most boring "motorsport" ever invented. I cannot figure out the allure of that garbage.
