I was looking through some pics of some amateur races between Mike and RV and at every amateur race that I went to Mike always kicked RV's ass. Mike was the next "phenom" coming up. Now RV hits the pros, and he hands Mike an ass whoopin in the lites class. So what changed to make Mike and RV switch roles?
MA split ways with Honda (in my opinion his worst mistake the KTM set him back)
So how did the KTM set him back exactly?
I think RV just has more overall talent. For example, Mike isn't all that good at SX.
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
Also MA is a notorious holeshot artist and in 4 lap amateur races the starts mean everything.
i am very impressed with MA as of late; he was never one of my favorite riders but you have to admit, hes faster then hes ever been, and it doesnt look like his head is on a swivel stick anymore, not much looking around, seems focused on whats ahead.
thats my opinion, but equipment, talent, and drive all play into it...
Instead he rides for consistency while on probabtion and can't step up to Villopotos new level of speed brought on by desire stemming from getting beat at Loretta's by Lawrence and practicing with and measuring himself with Grant Langston and the support of Mitch Payton. Grant get's hurt and they tell RV he's the guy and he just hangs it out from there.
Alessi has done phenomenal, just not as phenomenal as Villopoto.
I said different not inferior.
At that level not being 100% comfortable can mean allot. Even Nick Way is having trouble getting comfortable. Alessi was riding the KTM's when the Linkless suspension still had problems. Look how much better he was in the whoops this yr. Although his height still hampered him.
I don't think him not winning that first yr hurt him. The injury and the GH incident maybe but loosing fired him up even more. Mike is hungry.
I think he would have won last year if he would have been on a jap bike. Look how much better he did after he got the shock issues worked out.
He'll win eventually.
KTM wasn't the issue. Look at the results, they're the same on Jap & KTM. And this year he's "focused" and "hungry", and he still has the same results.
It wasn't the bike, but most will try to place blame there.
He likes the Suzuki, more. The real issue (this year) is that everyone has stepped up the pace.
Last year Ferry, was fastest towards the end, but had to many mistakes, and bad starts.
Short, is Mr. Consistent Podium...but didn't net the points needed.
Windham, had to come from to far behind, and Langston, handle the pressure better of the five, and netted more points to win the title.
Mike Alessi, likes the Suzuki better...much better. He has Stewart looking over his shoulder...for the long haul.
This year Stewart, is tougher, smarter, and more matured. He is doing what he needs to win the title.
My bets are still on Mike Alessi.
Pit Row
I believe that if they had stayed with Honda and not gone with the money Ivan Tedesco is one championship lite.
I'd like to know what else was said (there is something to be said for 'context').
Otherwise, his results speak for themselves.
Mike, is working hard to be all he can be. He felt the KTM would not do it. But when you have a chance to ride what RC would if he had another year on the contract, as well as have his multi-time Mechanic, I think the choice is obvious.
Mike, did more for KTM, then KTM, did for Mike...
The Suzuki team is as 100% as Mike Alessi. Right now they are in Northern California, Altitude testing. Dedication !
Oh, and I might ad...Spider grip testing...yippy !
That's what he said. In quotes.
Oh....and he wasn't talking about a KTM frame and Honda motor....
