DMV Problems

So I sold my scooter almost 1.5 years ago. I turned the release of ownership/liability over to DMV (CA) like you should and haven't heard anything since. Until yesterday, I received a letter from the DMV stating I owed registration fees and it would go to collections/garnish my wages through a bureau called the FTB if it wasn't paid... I have no contact with the new owner and he's out of state. Anyone else run into this and have any solutions. I had the bill of sale but it is since been misplaced after moving.

I had the same thing happen to me years ago. I had to send the bill of sale to them 3 times they keep losing the paper work and lots of phone calls. Documented who I talked to and the time I called. Took about a month or more to take care of it. Good luck.

I had that happen a dozen years ago on a two year old XR70 and I had no idea who had it. They let me scrap it and get out of any back fees. Sucks to be that guy.

Just fill out a release of liability online. Same thing with me. Dmv told me when i called to do it online. I kept a copy of the release.

Sold my bike on a Thursday, cancelled the insurance on a Friday. Didn't get around to turning in the tags until weeks later (in the middle of a move). DMV came after me for not having insurance several months later. Of course I lost bill of sale, now that I think about it I'm not sure if I paid them or not...
