Thanks for posting.

There are a lot of guys in there who haven't won any championships, yet have permanent numbers.

Take Bagget for instance. He has a little over one year racing 250's with no titles and he has a career number.

Does anyone know what the criteria are for earning one?

EDIT: Looks like I don't understand the numbering system. You'd think a life-long fan of the sport would get it. I must be less intelligent than the target audience.

The same way everyone gets one...they earn it!

Finish in the top 10 at the end of the season in combined points. Cool

Who the heck is 76: Calle Aspergren?

And shouldn't Turbo Reif's name always be in the top 99?

Combined? Shouldn't all four five zero guys have more points than two five zero guys? They race more races.

Here, this should help, i made a little cheat sheet in an image that you can save and look at it later a lot easier.

**I edited the image so it is a little easier to read, just right click, "save as" and use it for your cheat sheet

Pretty sure Blake Wharton is running Masterpoole's 3 digit number as a tribute. Maybe they left him off / forgot because of that ??

Baggett turned pro in 09,so this was his 3rd season.
So score a top ten OA once and then score 25 points a season to keep it forever.........really liked the old # system.

For the benefit of the groms (youngsters) on the board, it should be noted that back in the day pro's actually ran the number they earned based on the prior year's points. Numbers mattered---and they were earned. At the end of the day, it's an ego-driven sport. There shouldn't be any gottdam tenure in motocross.......

I personally like the numbering system a lot and I think it makes great sense once you get how it works. It's not 1st grade spelling, but it's really not "rocket science" either. Mathes did a great article explaining it a little while back. If you missed it, here it is. One read and you'll get it how it all goes down.

I was going by how much time he's actually put on the track, re-calibrating things accounting for his injuries. But yes, he has raced pro since '09.

+ the the question on Wharton:

Because they only competed in the Lites SX, they didnt earn any points that contribute towards earning a number.

I don't know how Hansen can always claim #100 though. If someone else wants it, what gives preference towards him?

Thanks for the link. Now I know. I guess I missed Dowd getting 25 points this year, I thought he lost #16 this year.

How does Hansen always keep #100?
The name.

Also, as long as I could always remember, 100, 101, and 111 were supposed to always be set aside for visiting foreign GP riders that came to America to race.

Top ten in points for nationals in the Lites, Top ten in either series for the 450 class.
