Anyone else think the audio was too loud in the stands? I was on the third level at about the 50 yard line right below the speakers and it was loud! Lurch would really hurt the ears. It was ear piercing at the beginning and seemed to get a little better or I got used to it. It made me wonder why they bothered to sound test the bikes if the audio was going to be that loud. The bikes were very quiet compared to the audio system. It was cool being able to hear the announcers during the races, but they could have turned the volume down a bit and I still could have heard them fine. Maybe I am just getting old, but I thought I would see what you all thought.
The Shop
I guarandamntee you as well that the sound guy on site that night was FREAKING OUT with amps clipping and thermalling (shutting down because of overheating) because they were pushed beyond their design parameters. Supercross is pretty loud. I have installed no racetrack sound system that can compete with the first lap of a race. Once they spread out - outdoors, it is workable, but indoors is a clusterfuck!
First year growing pains.
We went higher up in the stadium later in the evening just to check the view from the top... with the speakers hanging from the ceiling it was deafening loud! I had flashbacks of the first Freestone race where they had one set of loud speakers to cover the entire place.
That's a tough battle to win I would guess...
We did have ear plugs which really helps muffle the noise and allow you to hear what you want to hear.
I know I could never understand anything from the PA system at TX Stadium and I could understand it at the dome.
Pit Row
You have a small FM transmitter in the stadium that broadcasts the commentary. All spectators have to do is bring a small radio and headphones to keep up on the action. You could then hear everything the announcers say. They could even sell cheap radios on site.
Can't be very expensive. They have a system like this at a local once a year drag race here. You have your radio on so you can hear your call to staging.
A bunch of 4-strokes on full tilt boogie will shake you no matter what headphones you're wearing (we always got seats in the first 10-12 rows - so I liked hearing the PA in the 'phones (turned all the way up BTW) while the seats were on shake & bake.
However I still couldn't hear anything worth a chit for about a day after..........
