Happened this weekend at the Oatfield. I don't know them but that doesn't matter. What a horrendous thing to happen. I kicked in $100.

And the crew at work just put in $500. Thanks, Adobe Systems team!

That was a tough read. Prayers go out to them. Donated.

From Dirt Diggers Facebook (don't need account/login): https://www.facebook.com/groups/DDNMC/

Early this morning our very dear friends Mike and Katie Pierson, owners of MCK Motoshop were involved in a horrific accident. They had a propane explosion inside the trailer they were sleeping in at the track. They are both SEVERLY burned and were sent via life flight to Fresno area hospital. I don't want to go into details, I will say this is as bad as it gets for burns. This is going to be a tremendously long road to recovery for both Katie and Mike.
Please keep them in your prayers !!🙏🙏🙏

Wow. Hard to believe it's been 9 weeks. Update Today.

Full Update

Some snippets below from full update link:

Mike is finally able to talk again! It was great to hear his voice after all this time! It would seem that he is now done with surgery (awaiting final confirmation) and he will then be able to be moved to a rehab facility............

Katie has been doing great lately. There have been some complications that have come up with more bacteria, but it is unknown at this point where it is coming from. The good news is that is has not gotten worse..........She still has a VERY long road ahead of her. The doctors are hoping to start permanent skin grafts on her next week. So please let that sink in a little- it has been almost nine weeks now, and we have just gotten to this stage of the recovery.........

Thanks to some absolutely amazing Moto families (Davis, Ramos, Prock, Webb, Overby and Ford families. You all kick some serious ass and I cannot thank you enough for all of your help! And if I missed anyone, I owe you a beer!), we have successfully downsized Mikes shop..........

Glad to hear they are both improving.

Did they ever figure out how the explosion happened? I never heard an update.

I haven't heard a cause. I will ask them, just in case it helps others. I use a propane tank heater in my small trailer on cold days, but never sleep in there. Could just as easily happen while I'm sitting in front of it I guess.

I live in my camper, with a propane heater right under the bed. I couldn't imagine this happening, it's just terrible. I hope they are feeling better.

I wouldn't do that. That is essentially what caused this situation. I'm not gong to go into the details I was given, but never use propane tanks inside an enclosed space. I don't care if you have sensors, tip over alarms, or other safety precautions in place. Disasters like this can 100% be avoided.

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we would like to inform you of Katie’s passing in the early hours of 05/20/21. Katie fought hard every single day for the last 12 weeks but ultimately succumbed to her injuries in a very peaceful manner with Courtney and Katie’s mom (Cheryl) by her side. Heaven gained a beautiful angel and we are all very saddened by this loss as Kaite was, and will always be, a bright shiny light that has blessed our lives. Our family would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and continued support for Mike and Courtney as Mike still has a long road to recovery. Service arrangements are being made and we will update you when we have them finalized.

We love you so much Katie and you will be missed more than you know.
