This kid lined up to race today at a track in Kansas. When you REALLY want to race, you don't need fancy equipment, just "run watcha brung" Woohoo They seemed to be having a blast out there!

Holy cow. I don't see goggles, but it looks like he had most of the essential riding gear.

Where was this track?

He's holding his goggles in his hands like he is about to put them on.

Did he bag a holeshot on that beast?

I once tried to ride one of those things on a truck. Threw the chain in a rut in the first turn!

It;s the sign of the current times, with this economy you ride whatever brand pays you the most.

I bet he didn't have one ounce less fun than any of the others. Kinda reminds me of the old days. My very first race(1974 I think), they lined up every entrant (all classes) side by side...must have been a couple hundred of us. I was sandwiched inbetween a CL450 and a CB100 (both of which had been ridden to the track and neither was in a ridable state afterwards). Aaahhh memories.

4 strokers were cool back then. The Scrambler didn't survive?

Lol...my first 2 wheeled experience was on one of those meat cutters. Everything on them is sharp, pointed, and dangerous.Pinch "SCAR MAKER" is the brand name I think. I'm sure that's where my dirt infection began...mega fun though..."Hey Mom, where are the band-aids?"

Nope...that CL had rubber mounted ape-hanger handlebars. He out ran me down the start straight but when we hit the monster braking bumps his bars pivoted forward and he followed them over the front end. It was ugly. The little CB's exhaust came loose at the flange and swung around to become a fish hook shaped anchor. When it hooked a tree root, he was launched over the bars like a spear. All this happened in very rural East Texas...no one had a clue...motorcycles + dirt = motocross.

Grandparents used to own it, right?
What town is it near, Dennis?
I am always looking for tracks like Merwin. Should I consider GV these days?

GV got recently renovated from a local track designer here in Kansas. Its now called Valley MX in Grain Valley Mo.

As far as Dragoon goes, it's in Dragoon, KS i believe the town is called. Very forgiving and smooth track but very nice family oriented facility.

The people that took over GV have worked wonders, I had a blast riding there yesterday.
Its nice having a cool track a half mile from my house.

Thanks! I always trusted Crutcher and his track prep, so if it is at least that safe and loamy, I will be a happy racer.

Nothing like being at a Midwest track.I had more fun going to the Midway track in Minnesota the day after the national to watch the local races.Lots of family's camping out kids playing fun races and bikes of every type new old 2 strokes 4 strokes friendly people and little ego's.
A real breath of fresh air from SO Cal.
