Chad Reed @CRtwotwo FYI at this time I have zero interest in putting someone on my bike. Benefit to cost ratio doesn't even come close to making sense...

I could.

Why would he fire everyone for half a season? His sponsors pay the bills even without him out there (though not the same as they would if he podiumed). It would cost more money to actually get the rig to the race with some guy who's going to struggle to make the main than it would be worth.

I`ll ask again- what percentage of that race team is funded out of Reed`s own pocket and would you pay for all of it out of your own pocket even though you`re not racing yourself?

Reed builds a team based around himself as a lone rider and all these guys on his team are going to sign up for a week to week gig? Fucking hilarious to think Reed would dump them all at a moments notice. Can you imagine the shitstorm if he dumped his entire team? He wouldn't even be welcome back in Australia. He's a big boy, he knows what he got himself into and I suspect he knows the right way to deal with the situation. Not like he's pissed all his money away on Ferrari's and Lamborghini's.

Reed likes his insurance policies (lloyds of london etc) and uses them creatively from what Ive heard.

possible scenarios?:

1) Reed bought a policy for team to protect employees benefits if he gets hurt? (so not out of pocket- likely)
2) Employees signed up for a team with the risk knowing if CR gets hurt they done? (doubt this, the names are too big)
3) Employees are guaranteed pay by CR personally even if they sit home and plan for next season? (maybe)

My question is (as was asked by Kongols) what does the BelRey contract (and or other sponsors) look like compared to operating procedures ect. There is a million ways to write a contract....

There is also more ways to market a product than just going racing, Reed could market BelRey from his couch...

One thing is known, CR was holding out for big money to do a title sponsor to this team so my guess is if total budget is 1.5M ish for both rounds, I would bet Belrey is less than 33% of all that. Probaby even half that amount...?

spit balling...

Makes sense. And its a Factory Honda.

Not his bike to let someone else ride.

Business interruption insurance? Not likely in my opinion. It would cost at least 1/2 of the payoff. Permanent disability insurance from Loyd's Of London cost 10% of the payout and Reed would have to have career ending injuries. My guess is he is just trying to cut his losses.

Reed claims putting another rider on his bike does not make financial sense.... However, the other teams do hire replacement riders. Ie) WIndham and Barcia riding Canard's during last year's nationals and Cody Mackie filling in for Grant.

Reed is funding his own team. I don`t think Canard or Kehoe is funding factory Honda.

I am pretty sure he could have key member insurance, which is not uncommon in business. That would cover him if he can't do his job, ie ride. Most likely that would extend to paying the expenses (reasonable) of the business if it is directly related to the operation of the business. On top of that I am sure he has insurance that covers Chad the man, vs Chad the business. Its not like he would be committing insurance fraud or even doing anything vastly unusual in business. No way anyone is getting laid off. I doubt Goose, Lars or Ozzy are worried.

That and, typically, the rig is going to be there without that rider, so why not throw someone in his place. The TwoTwo rig won't be there the rest of the year. No point in sending it out for one replacement rider.

I'd guess the people that work there have a contract that states they get paid X-amount regardless.

Reed has earned me as a fan over the years (not that it matters) and unfortunatley he may not even be ready for Hangtown after this list of injuries. So the Regal teaser pic could indicate that he has been training behind the scenes for the 22-Motorsports MX team this summer! Reed also hinted at something big for MX this year (a second rider finally?)

Speedy Recovery to Speedy Reedy!
We enjoyed watching you ride your heart out at A1 and San Diego this year and of course every TV broadcast!

Regal has nothing to do with 22motorsports.

They will have a jump on outdoors testing. I assume the truck will continue to make the races with Reed and Ozzy going to sign autographs if he is able to get around OK, maybe guest in the booth, do the shop appearances. Chad Reed can give his sponsors more doing that than putting a TwoTwo bike in 11-20th.

Wrong way to look at this if you're truly looking to build a "Legacy".

So if there is no TwoTwo bike on the track, do the sponsors still send the full payments for the whole SX season? Does the team still make the rounds even without a rider? I always thought the idea of the fill-in riders was to fulfill sponsorship obligations in terms of exposure and representation.
