I hope that was the first time anyone jumped that gap, because unless you have nuts the size of bowling balls or just plain stupid you don't just hit something that big without watching for a good little bit. Thankfully he only got a broken shoulder, that hit looked brutal. It kind of looked like he tried to bail to the right at touchdown.

Brutal. That's the worst feeling is knowing your going to crash and there's nothing you can do about it and it all happens so fast.

I'm confused. I view that and thought, "He didn't even lean back." He panic rev'd, but I have to admit, that looked like an easy save. No, I'm not saying I'm some great stud. More so, it looked like he did it on purpose. Hell, if he just held on tight, he would have landed it.

Take another look. As soon as his front wheel touches earth, he catapults himself into the ground. He didn't even try to save it. That was odd.

Little more front brake, a touch less panic rev, click up to 7th gear= buttery smooth landing.

I don't think leaning back would've altered the bikes rotation at all. You can pull on those handlebars all you like but once the bike is set on an arc like that, your only real hope is the throttle. Nor would gripping super tight upon landing have saved him in that case either. The forces are unbelievable.

Very lucky to walk away with what he got.

Weird... In situations like that, most riders instant reaction would be to hang off the back, anything.. But that dude just stood staight up and took it..

Sometimes i crash like that on MX reflex, doesnt hurt as bad,,,

I think there's a difference when you put your bike in an endo, and the jump puts the bike in an endo.

One you can't bring back so easy.
11/7/2012 3:05pm
I don't know. I've watched that 10 times. It doesn't make any sense. As soon as he leaves the jump, he throws his body forward like he's a Long distance ski jumper. The back comes up and I'm thinking it's looking good. If you turn off the sounds, it's good.

Then he continues his dead sailor move, but then the crazy part happen. As soon as his front wheel touches ground, the right side of his body is on the ground. The suspension didn't even compress?

I think I figured it out. Ghost. Yep. A ghost threw him off that bike. He could have easily landed that except for the paranormal goblins. Case solved.

P.S. As for Ronnie Mac, I can watch that Panic rev all day. It never gets old. That's what Monster SX needs. Ronnie Mac. I'd pay big dollars for that.

Rosebud441,

See? You see what I'm saying, right? It's weird.

Orange724,

O.K., you do have a point. I thought he had it. Well, I'll give him one thing. He's got some serious balls to air out that big jump.

I hope I'm never in a situation to test that out, but on paper you could you get more attitude adjustment if you up shift while power revving, no? In other words, there is still hope as long as you are not already pinned in 5th gear.

If you pause the slow motion part at 12 seconds you can see he seat bounces, which is why his body is so straight once he leaves the lip.

Bingo, good observation!

I would probably vomit from seeing an endo that huge in real life.

Say you start pitching forward, so you panic rev, but that's not enough. What happen if you upshift at this point (and keep it pinned)? Wouldn't that correct your pitch even more than in the lower gear?

Pretty sure I read Reed said was trying to up shift during his endo in Arlington. Maybe somebody else could confirm this?

If he let off the gas for a split second to bang a higher gear it woulda rotated even more. In theory it sounds like a good idea, but when you are in the air like that..... shit happens so fast! Oh how I do not miss those moments! 4 Strokes make those endo situations happen more I think. Having to let off on a jump face a tad bit for timing is tricky on a 4 banger. I'll never forget my first 250f.... I thought the engine braking was going to kill me on a few occasions! lol

He did.... Amazing the reflexes the elite guys have! It takes a while to learn to up shift in the air, especially when on the verge of disaster! Down shifting in flight seems pretty easy though.

I had a similar endo back in 03. Except I went end over end and the bike ate me for lunch. Dislocated femur, broken collar bone, bruised heart and lungs as well as a concussion. As far as shifting gears in the air while endoing I have done it myself and was lucky to pull out of it. It's all about keeping your cool and just doing it. U can feel the added centrifugal force to the real wheel.
