If the 2012 season goes according to the plan (RV, RD, JS being fast and healthy), the 250 rider for the USA will be again a weak link... Would you think the AMA, Roger and Dungey would be ok to have RD5 ride a 250F in the deep sand of Lommel? He would be eligible because he won't be 23 yet by the time of the race...
Team Puerto Rico: Stewart, Canard, Barcia.
Could this team go 1-2 at the Des Nations?
Anyways, I think Dungey riding the 250 would be a last resort. With no other American rider on a KTM 250 this year, there wouldn't be enough time to get the bike ready especially if Dungey is in a close championship battle, which I think is what we're all expecting. That would be the best three riders, but the best three don't always go to the Des Nations. Due to that stupid 23 age rule for the 250, many countries aren't able to send their top 3 guys, and the drop off from 3 to 4 for them is much more than a drop off from 3 to 4 for the US team.
I agree with Paul though. Don't be surprised if Herlings wins both of his motos by 30 seconds on a 350

I really hope we are able to send our best team, Coldenhof, Herlings and de Reuver is a strong team if they are in form.
He's pretty fast in the sand isn't it?
RD5 is a strong rider on 450....KTM on the sand is the best bike....is crazy using the 250F...for me...:-)
Next year Cairoli and Herlings win the MXoN!
Even though many riders over here train at Lommel there still wont be many collective teams strong enough to beat a US team of Villopoto, Dungey/Stewart and Barcia.
I'm expecting herlings to dominate both moto's but collectively the USA probably still have the best team, even at lommel! The interesting thing at lommel though, is even riders that are good there are more likely to crash/ make mistakes, so the chances of countries having bad moto's to count will be more than at any other track in the world (except maybe lierop)
I will be there at the trackside, i've not been to a des nations race since matterly in 06!!! Would not miss this one for the world!! We plan on going over there the week before for a few days riding in holland and belgium, then watch the des nations and back home!!! I think this ones going to be a classic!! Itll be a bit disappointing to not get to ride lommel this time, but we rode it 2 days in a row last time i was over (in september) so maybe wont miss it that much!! (its donkey work round there after a couple of days)
It would be amazing if anybody could get some inside info on where the americans were riding on the days leading up to the event? Like I said, we will be riding on the tracks around the belgian/ dutch border (eersel, reusel, hondaparc, lierop etc)
Do you think they will still take stewart DV? if he doesnt do the outdoors? I know he's a good sand rider, but surely it would make more sense to take canard, RV and dungey (assuming stewart isnt racing outdoors). If they did take him and he wasnt doing outdoors then I'd expect him to be fast- but he would struggle for fitness round there if he's not been doing outdoors!!
Do you think USA will even turn up?! they didnt go to lierop in 2004
If putting Dungey on a 250 is what makes the most compete team that's what you do.....maybe it means Canard riding the 250.....maybe some kid like Bogle will be killing it, who knows. I hate all the constraints that we put on the team structure now.
It might not be the fastest team that wins at lommel in 2012- on a track like that you are more likely to get riders crashing / making mistakes so it could go down to the team thats most consistent. Its gona be amazing, and i cant wait already!!!
I hope he does though
Pit Row
Like you say, it would be the strongest team, regardless of age!!
Barcia rides the sand awesome aswell, and i can also feel a lites nationals title from him in 2012. Also, i can't see Stewart making the team, he's not even capable of racing the required four AMA nationals!
thing is, james knows exactly what he has to do to get ready for the outdoors- all that training he's done with aldon baker, and the amount of time he has been racing at the top level. If he wants to get ready and do the outdoors, then he will!!!
I hope he does do the outdoors, I always look forward to that series alot more than the supercross. I think james will have his hands full with RV and co now though, after 2 years of not racing- the others are only getting faster, whilst he isnt!
They should be able to ride a sand track or 2.
