What was the backstory and lead up to why Chad didn’t have a ride and had to start his own team?

I know vital historians can fill me in. Thanks.

09 had Suzuki ride. Suzuki just signed Dungey to good contract and didn’t have leftover money for Chads high price tag. Chad wanted to stay yellow. Kawi signs Chad I’m 2010 and Chad never got along with the bike. So Chad went from Yamaha who he left, to Suzuki, to Kawasaki and he resigned his contract with Kawi due to not being in it mentally and not liking the bike.

So fast forward to 2011 and Chad wanted to race so he tested different bikes and liked Honda the most. He built a team around the bike he felt he could win on the most. Hired Lars Lindstrom as his mechanic and Dave Osterman as his team manager. After a few wins in 2011 factory Honda started pitching him parts when Trey got hurt. That resulted in 2012 Chad having his own team backed with factory Honda bikes.

Great stuff.
That was such a crazy time with Reed and his rides. His last year racing outdoors on the zuki was probably one of my favorite years watching him race. Remember thinking Roger is nuts betting on Dungey over Reed.

Add in 2010 at Kawi he had EBV and pulled out of the Outdoors half way through and left his contract, which made it difficult to get a good ride for 2011 so he decided to do it himself.

I loved that Honda didn’t give him any support, but then he started beating all the Honda guys and winning races, so Honda was like “oh hey, wanna put some Honda logos on your bike? Here are those factory parts you wanted”
