I saw that KTM announced their 2008 contingency programs so I though I'd check it out. Am I looking at something wrong on the site or is it true that they only pay $300.00 for an overall win at the amateur nationals?

I mean, it says they pay $300.00 for the A class at Loretta's, is this right or am I off my rocker?

300 for the win. Plus if someone is on a KTM and winning Lorrettas then they are more than likely already getting paid by KTM anyways.

If a kid wins a title on any other brand they will get $4,000.00 - $5,000.00 per title if they have a factory ride. If not, they will make at least $2,000.00 so a mear $300.00 seems really low.

Yamaha is listed at $1500, so if they are really making 4-5K then the KTM guys probably are too........

I'm sayin' in general, that's quite low and it isn't going to attract your average guy to ride them locally where they could make $$.

My point is; every other factory offers $1,500-$2,000 where they offer $300.00 To me, it seems very low and very odd.

Very true. I would look at it too and probably go with another company but I know 99.9% of the local guys around here dont even know what contingency is. <img class= " title="Laughing">

KTM spends their money in the offroad world. On the east coast, KTM's rule. Our series has been receiving money from KTM for the top riders for several years now. Fifteen of our class champions are on KTM's for 2007. Our 2007 Grand Champ is a KTM support rider, Stephen Edmondson.

Bottom line is this; if you're a fast local kid and you can buy Kawi that pays $300.00 per class with only 3 entries, it's gotta be hard to convince those kids to change to a bike that might not pay a dollar at the event.

Some families use that money to subsidize the cost of racing and realize every dollar counts. I mean, on a paying weekend a good local kid can walk away with $600.00 + from both classes. Not bad, IMO....

I don't know, it just seems like they would be stepping it up a little more for the grassroots riders to try and grain a larger market share. KTM is making some good stuff and they're making a big push right now, so I thought they'd be offering the most of all the companies that's why when I looked I was shocked.

If you think they're putting their money in off-road racing your wrong. I get 300 dollars for winning 250 expert in a 14 race series. If I was on a yamaha I would get 400 dollars per win for nine of the races. But guess what bike I ride??? 250xc. About half of the bikes in my series are ktms as well. They have faith in their product and don't need to pay people to ride their bikes. Plus if you want a 250 two stroke they are pretty much the only way to go.

This is true, especially for Honda. But KTMs bike sales just keep going up. They are in a niche and people really like the quality even w/ the quirks. Plus the quirks are pretty small these days.
