With reedy having his own team etc and the biggest sponser seeming to be BelRay , does he have any chance of making decent money this year?
Alot of factory guys finish way lower than he does and they are getting PAID to race.
Wouldn't he have been better off taking less money than he wanted to at least be on a team and get paid instead of paying for everything himself - when their is no money coming in?

Anyone actually know how this works?

It's a business, he is the product
His sponsors pay "his business"
and if there is enough money, "his business," pay him a salary.
Just as they pay their staff, Chad is an employer-employee...aka self-employed
I am sure Chad gets the usual, if not an enhanced, bonus from Honda, as well as from all of his other sponsors.
Keep in mind also, typically one of the largest financial sponsors to a team is the gear company.

Which Chad is lucky that Shift/Fox also make their beans in sports other than moto.

Honestly

Chad is taking all the risk on funding his own team. That should gain him some respect with in the moto community.

some of the sponsors money, like the gear, is used to purchase the "insurance" premiums. Chad will make money on the insurance/bets.

I remember reading that the "insurance" companies would not look at him anymore after he took them to the cleaners when he won the outdoors on a Suzi. Chad, and a couple of other riders were no go zones for these insurance/betting agencies.

I would imagine breaking even on this first year would be a good thing.......
does he write himself a check every week?..........I doubt that. I would think
the help get's paid that way, but a guy like him won't know how much he made or
lost till the end of the season.

Self employment, it ain't for eveybody.

I am self employed and trust me (if you choose) Chad is taking a big risk here!!! He has placed the ultimate bet...on his own ability. Sit back and think about if you would do that.

I see chad being in the MX industry in the future as a business owner maybe even a team owner, other than himself now of course.

He's a sharp guy, similar to Albee.

Maybe he is, and maybe he isn't.

If you had ever spent your own money investing in a race team, you would know that its not uncommon for those who promise, along with contractually agreeing to financially support the team, don't alway honor their agreements.

I have done it at a much lower level at SX and MX for a bit, and it hurts the wallet. Actually I'd go as far as to say if the Moto community knew what some of these companies do to people they wouldn't care if the sport went up in flames.

But Just from things I've heard here and there it's more other peoples money than it is his. This could be completely wrong though.

Didn't MC make more money on his own than with a factory team?

I'm sure he'll be along in a few minutes to answer these important questions.....after all, this is Vital, and we all deserve to know how much he makes.

They posted how much he makes in a magazine and he confirmed it if people wanted to know anyway.

Whats wrong with discussing something?

I think that this falls into the "You've got to spend money to make money" category. He's on his own now, and if he can post a Top 5 place this year, he'll secure more for the future. Not sure if the contingencies will cover the checks that he's written to start up, but that all depends on how the season goes.

That's something you and I can agree on.
