The Indiana Pro National on Aug 16th will be my first outdoor national ever. I was mainly just looking for some tips and advice. For you folks that veteran outdoor goers - how can I make the best of my day out there? Thanks in advance!

1. Unless your woman is VERY into moto, leave her home.
2. Wear comfy shoes and plan on walking a lot to see each section.
3. Drink lots of water.
4. Sun screen.
5. Don't be in a hurry to leave.
6. Find shade for between moto's.
7. Have a small backpack for supplies (water/snacks/camera/sunscreen)

Good luck!

Sounds like great advice. My wife is into it and we are actually leaving our kids (3 and 5) at home.

If you're taking chairs bring a little garden shovel. At least at Muddy Creek and Budds Creek most of the viewing is on a hillside, so if you want to sit comfy in a chair you have to dig some holes for the legs to go into.

My wife and I go to one every year (she's very into it and loves it). We always bring some foldable chairs, a rolling cooler filled with some drinks (lots of water) and snacks, a small shovel, and sunscreen. We park our stuff and then walk around to see different areas. We always get there early so we can catch all of practice, and we're never in a hurry to leave after wards.

They broadcast the announcing over a local AM or FM station, so some people bring a radio to listen in.

Shade and hydration are crucial.

You might be laughed at, but wearing a big hat like this will make the race much more enjoyable:

Try to get a camping pass and stay thru Sunday, because if it's like any other 1st time national, you'll be stuck in the parking lot until Sunday anyways.

^^^^^Now that's funny....

My advice would be get there super early. Watching the best in the world roll out for first practice and huck huge crap they have never seen before on the second lap is the best part for me.

Also if you want an autograph from the top 450 guys, become familiar with the stupid ticket process. If you don't have a ticket you don't get a signature.

Please don't do what EHR has suggested as it will cause you to miss all the fun that happens to the folks that do follow that advice.................

The flowery hat would be a nice touch though. That may be enough to land you in a magazine(or at least on a moto website).

I don't think traffic will be too bad. They have a GNCC, they got it figured out.

Traffic will be sorta tough getting out, atleast it was leaving the regional.

Either way there is alot of shade fortunatly at this venue and great viewing areas. I would recommend going to the far side of the track where there is a sick ass table to gnarly down hill that is right next to the big uphill triple. You can see the start and about 5 sections of track from the one point.

Find a beer garden in the shade and get as many beers in you as you can. That's my Washougal plan every year.

Bring one of these or 2 if your wife is going Red Budd last year was so hot.

One rule before the event:

1. Hydrate yourself.

I have 2 rules the day of:

1. I suggest an Air-horn. And blow that SOB towards the SKY and not into people's ears.

2. Get exceptionally rowdy when a 2 stroke pro comes ripping by, no matter what lap, and no matter in what place.

I haven't been to a national in a few years but the pits are generally only open to the $ paying public from 9am to noon. So if you want to pay for seeing the mechanics, riders, and get some autographs and posters get there at like 8-9am

I take a length of cardboard tube, like the kind xmas paper is wrapped around.

It is for all the posters that the teams have laid out.

Roll them up,stick them in the tube, put in backpack and they make it home in one piece.

Get into the pits first thing. Go to the KTM rig. If Roger isn't TOO busy...ask him how his sons are doing. Spend the next hour learning how proud he is of his kids and their service to the country. You don't hear much about it but it's some cool stuff. His youngest was pretty screwed from an IED in Iraq and had a hard time when he mustered out. I tried to hook him up with the VA but it was a lot of red tape. The oldest boy was with the state department last I talked to Roger. You won't be bored.

Think about drinking and remember that the police was ticketing and arresting people at the GNCC last year.

Why drink beer? Pissing all the time.

Whiskey gets the train to the station much faster and your clothes are already dirty before hillside belly slides.
