Its funny that people ask RV what he will do to keep busy or that he will get bored. I am 53 and retired one and a half years ago. I am not even close to being bored. Retirement is one of the best things I have done in my life.

While he didn't give a solid answer, I suspect that he is done after this season.

I really respect RV for what he has done in his career and going over to try something new in the GP's but this irked me a bit:

"I believe what racers do in their time is equal to someone sitting behind a desk for 40 years"

Sorry buddy, but you don't know what you are talking about because you haven't experienced life outside of MX. Does he think people just sit there and chill out all day and do nothing? (Well I'm sure some do but the majority are busting their arse)

He seems to have the opinion that he has worked soo hard and at the same time thinks everyone else is having fun 24 x 7 while he works 200x as hard. People work 8-12 hour days, then go home and exercise just to stay in shape. Does his body take a toll? HELL YES, but so do a lot of manual laborers. His daily schedule is probably what, 4 hours training, 2 hours riding, and 2 hours traveling from spot to spot? Then relaxes the rest of the day...

IDK, maybe I'm crazy but I just get the sense that he is whiney and bitter about somethings that he doesn't fully understand about non-moto career paths. Its a recurring theme in a lot of his interviews when talking about non race day stuff like training, riding, testing, autographs once in a while, but thats about all he can come up with.

Anywho, RV thanks for the entertainment. You are one of the best of all time no doubt. Have fun in retirement!

Yeah.. that got me a little too. But you know what? I would rather hear what he really thinks than have him just thank his sponsors.

I have to believe he works harder than most people out there. I can't imagine people know all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes as well, unless they've been there of course.

I think you're overreacting to him simply making it relatable for others as to how riders go about their daily lives and the effects that it has.

He said before that people don't treat him too well in the paddock. He was PC in his response to his question about other riders being friendly.

Maybe he didn't articulate this as well as he could have, but consider the constant and unyielding pressure he has faced over the past decade or so. The pressure to perform, to win, week in and week out, year in and year out. He had to win because his parents put everything into his career. He risks life and limb every time he lines up, and has had some horrific crashes in pursuit of wins and titles. He has to stay in absolutely amazing shape, and has to watch what he says and does every minute of the day. For him there is only one way and that is down.

So I would completely agree with his assessment, and very few people who go to their jobs/careers on a daily basis can remotely identify with the pressure and risk he and others take in this sport, constantly.

RV, stay safe, and enjoy this last go round. I'm sure you will find something to do!
