I dont know what made me think about this. So, GL wants somewhere around $1.2 million to host a GP race but who absorbs the cost of constructing an entirely new track for those places like Lommel?

Also, I assume that if you are building a track, then you arent at an MX facility to begin with. So, now you would have even more cash outlay for things like bleachers, toilets, and all of the other stuff that established facilities already have.

I would imagine all of that would be pretty expensive. It seems like it would be hard to break even, let alone a profit. I dont know, maybe its a stupid question.

1.2 mill is MXDN race. That`s just a license cost. GP race license cost is around 500 grand. I`m pretty sure all the additional cost are covered by organizer too.

Ok, wasnt sure on the license cost. But still, I would think that the cash outlay for the promoter would be astronomical, especially for one event.

I mean, I think it is hard enough on the established facilities and they dont have all of the extra up front costs.

events like this will often also get support by the city as it will help other businesses (hotels, restaurants etc) by bringing in tourists.

Ok, then I made a mistake. I meant the Switzerland track from photos in another thread. So, just switch Lommel for Switzerland.

I thought about that. That would definetly spread the costs out.

OK

Deal is with Switzerland , is that it is very difficult to organize any kind of racing , as circuit racing was banned in the 50's and MX has fallen foul of the green movement massively over the last few years, so even though there are places to have races, someone decided that Luongo's Gin palace couldn't be on the side of a hill and they are making a track from scratch on the flat , which will no doubt be impossible to see anything of unless you are 9ft tall of buy a grandstand seat.

Lommel gets worse every year, the part of the track we stood by we could only see the riders heads as they went past, but it had as good a view of the rest of it as you manage.. tracks with poor viewing is one thing , tracks with artificially poor viewing is totally another.

Yep, if you are going to a GP to watch some racing then save your money as you wont see shit. I am going to the Des Nations this year as i will be in Europe at the time but i am not going to watch the racing, purely for the atmosphere, i will watch the racing when i get home.

This will be my last Youthstream event that i go to.

I`m skipping GP of Latvia next year for sure. Got in a argument with GP organizer about huge banners next to the track and how you can`t see shit. He said I`m poor educated and if I don`t like it I shouldn`t come, so I told him I`ll spend my money elsewhere.

Exactly right, i understand there needs to be advertising but the shit doesnt need to be 6ft tall. Look at US Nationals you can still see the racing and there is plenty of advertising. Those guys at MX Sports know how to put on a show for the fans. I know where i will continue to spend my money, and Guiseppe can go and fuck himself because after Maggiora he wont be seeing a brass razzooo from me.

I will be telling anyone who asks me also when asked what the best series to go to is.

It''s 280 directly to youthstream in advance and another 200 for the rest to setup terrain etcetera. So 500 sounds close enough Tongue

A track like Matterley Basin isn't a year round track, it's only used for the GPs so has no permanent infrastructure whatsover.

On the plus side for promoters they get to charge ground rent for all the food, accessory and entertainment concessions.
