I needed a stand to hold a future bike project I have in storage. I already have work stands for the shop and didn't feel like blowing cash on a pretty stand just to hold a bike doing nothing sitting in the dark. I dug around my scrap wood pile and came up with a design for a 16" tall stand with a 15"x16" top and bottom. The stand is sturdy and easily holds over 300lbs. I thought I would share the design here if anyone is interested.

Downside is you need to then lift a 145kg bike onto the stand. Good and cheap fix if you have the wood as scrap though.

That xt600 was just a test to be sure of weight capacity luckily. The bike going on the stand is around 100kg. But yeah lifting a big bike unto a stand can be a burden. It takes solid core muscles and proper lift technique. Not an activity for the weak in body by any means.

I made something similar a few years ago. Incredibly strong and stable.

These are all sweet stands getting posted. I am gonna have to revisit building wooden stands again in the future. All these sweet stands though which design to choose next? I am thinking a cross between the fasthouse stands and this grey one. Maybe a build stand with a small storage area in the middle plus add some wheels for moving around the shop.

I guess my homemade stands are similar to the fasthouse version but without the fancy pinstriping and paint job. 1/2 plywood and some roofing metal to wrap the tops.

I have one of these that I built in high school woodshop in 90/91 that is still holding up a bike in my dads shop.

Well it's not wooden but I paid about $15 in materials to build it all. Plus I'm sponsored by Patron Tequila now. . . I really like it being on casters. I like to keep my bike against the wall and it's difficult to put the bike right against the wall on a stand. The legs are actually at an angle but it doesn't look like it in the picture.

That Lincoln log design is one that I looked at before I decided on the one I came up with. I would have gone with it but didn't have enough 2x4.

Nice thumpers you have by the way. Honda XRs the original BRAAAAAAAP! I just saw Fox Terrafirma 3 for the first time recently. The opening scene with the XR400 going 100mph across the desert is friggin epic.

Absolutely! I use them for tons of things around the house - just like a step-stool.

I still have one of the stands came with the '91 YZ's as a package. I think there was a top-end and some other goodies in the package as well.
