Do you use launch control?

About 2 months ago I replaced my trusty old 13 yz450 with a new 2020. Today I was practicing starts for the first time using the launch control and found it to be more annoying than beneficial. I didn't have a stop watch or anything, but it definitely felt faster not using it just modulating the clutch and throttle. Is this something I should try and get used to or just go with what I'm familiar with?

I only tried it on two starts, and I didn't like it. Now, I was riding a borrowed 450, and I'm a 2-stroke guy. I would probably have screwed up the start no matter what in that case, but I'm one of those guys who likes to know exactly what the bike is going to do and adjust my riding and throttle control accordingly. Having two different ignition curves seems unnecessary to me.

No way, every gate is different and the same gate is different one day to the next depending on the wetness of the dirt. I can see that concrete gates and expanded steel are pretty reliable but even concrete is different when it's wet or hot and dry.

I can't imagine that one map will work in all condtiins. Knowing if you should sit forward or back, roll the throttle or start high RPM comes from experience not a button.

Some of the best starts I got was from just rolling the throttle at low rpm while everyone else was spinning the tire.

On tarmac, its like cheating, wet or dry, on a grid with 9 Husky FS450's and a TM450, the TM has no launch and gets smoked.. if you forget to set it, you know.

Launch control is designed to be used when traction is a problem. Slick/Concrete. When traction is good, you do not need the launch control to modify the power delivery. A holeshot device is an important part of the start. Weight distribution/Body position/Balance.

On my kxf 250, it makes the difference.
Altough it may seem worse to you, you actually go faster because the tire il slipping less.
I also use the lock starting device.
I'm 60kg with my mx gears and 8/10 i holeshot.
I'm 18 so my reaction time could be better than a 30/40 yo man.

I never liked it, I'm not a good starter but I was even worse with launch control.

I'm 82kg (without gear) and I never had the front lift when I was dumping it in 2nd.
