Two Time Supercross Class Champion Chad Reed Makes his Return at the Monster Energy Cup

AURORA, Ill. (September 21, 2012) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that two time Supercross Class Champion Chad Reed, of Dade City, Fla., will race in the second annual Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20 on his TwoTwo Motorsports Honda. This will be the first time that Reed will race in the Monster Energy Cup.

http://www.monsterenergycup.com/ReedVideo.html

Reed’s debut at the Monster Energy Cup will mark his first race back since suffering season ending injuries during the Arlington stop of The Monster Energy, AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

“On race day, it will have been eight-plus months since I have raced,” said Reed. “It's been a lot of work with rehab, but I'm excited to get back to racing and to have my fitness at 100%. If I win a million bucks in Vegas – I mean – you just add it to the collection; it would be better in my bank account than anyone else’s.”

In the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross season, Reed, who came to U.S. from Australia, won the 41st Supercross Class win of his career. In doing so, Reed tied Jeremy McGrath as the only riders to win Supercross Class Main Events in nine seasons. He also picked up four addition podium finishes before suffering injuries that sidelined him for the remainder of season.

Reed has started 148 Supercross Class races and has earned 126 top-five finishes and 119 podium finishes. Following an impressive runner-up finish for the 2011 supercross season, Reed won two races and earned 10 additional podium finishes.

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. New to this year’s track will be a 200’ banked sweeping turn that will be built in the stands, two 11 rider starting gates split by 220’ before they converge at the apex of the 300’ start straight and the joker lane that riders will have to race through at least once during laps 2-10. After racing through these sections of the track, fans will be treated to equally exciting racing lanes that are built into the Monster Energy Fan Zone, which is located outside of the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.

Tickets for the 2012 Monster Energy Cup can be purchased at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office, UNLVtickets outlets, online at www.UNLVtickets.com, www.MonsterEnergyCup.com, or by phone at (702) 739-FANS. Tickets will be available at the Sam Boyd Stadium Box Office on the day of the event only.

Exactly Cool I basically talked him into it. Hopefully he hooks me up when he wins lol

I'm under the delusional idea that I was the very first person outside of Chad's circle to know he was riding the MEC. Been tellin all the chicks about it and stuff.

Go TwoTwo!

I hope Chad's idea for San Diego whoops is honored. The track itself was the biggest problem last year.

Are there any rules that differ from the ama series for the mec? Do teams hop the bikes up if so? Sorry this is so random haha

The only rule is that there are no rules. You can run whatever you want, 2 strokes, 4 strokes, 250's, 450's, 125's.... But no one will. They will run the bikes they will be racing in order to shake them down for 2013 SX. There will be some 250 guys running 450's but that is probably about the extent of anything special.

Unless they're just going for attention. I think it'd be cool to run spotter-to-rider race communications.

I'm not sure how much, or how effectively, riders would be able to communicate while on the track. I think it'd be more restricted to the team telling them, "______ is down ahead, watch out," or, "________ is on the move behind you," or, "Try _____ line through this section."

If they were doing poorly, it might be, "Hey, which restaurant are we hitting after the race?"

GuyB I think it would be awesome too, as could definately help with lappers as well. I dig the idea! Just wouldn't want someone talking to you that get's really excited and emotional.

Just as your hitting a rythm section or triple, would want someone yelling something out.

Be real good telling them "hey Reed is tripling from outside and is quicker than your line"etc.

Or l"appers coming up they are going inside go out."

Or better yet "dude down on landning of triple go insde" etc.

I hope everything goes well; would love to see him on the racetrack again. Might be an obvious statement but I think this years MEC is going to be a good race...
