Hey guys I was wondering, I was hearing rumors that the format for the 2014 Supercross would be changed to having a Semi and no qualifying practice is this true and if so what is the exact format for the night.

Am I missing something? It sounds about like it was last year, with the exceptin of 2 more ppl on the gate and 2 more qualifing in the LCQ...

Still have timed prcatice, still have heat races to make mains... what else changed?

as an east coast guy, I wish they would move the time forward a little. I mean do they really need track maintenance for an hr and 20 minutes? 30 minute opening ceremonies (maybe for A1, thats it).

I get up early on Sunday so staying up until 1 and 2 o'clock isnt fun. Dont let that schedule fool you either, everything will be running late as usual.

EDIT: they probably may need that much track maintenance with the additional races...start track walk at 10!

Whoever wins the most semifinals this year should receive the "Mike LaRocco" trophy.

yeah, your missing two extra races for the 450 class. two more races is huge for the fans.

Although the format isn't completely new (this format was used from 1984-ish to 2007, albeit a different daytime qualifying format), the 2 extra slots are AWESOME!!!. The LCQ's will be more interesting, especially with depth of talent there is this year. Gonna be some fast guys that end up in the LCQ's

...and 2 more guys at the gate is a 10% increase in first corner crowd density. This is all good stuff as far as I am concerned.

In the press conference, they claims 450's would be the first race. This schedule doesn't show that. Who's right?

That schedule is not not right.
450's are going first this weekend.

Why no Semi's for the 250s
tradition if nothing else. although, time is probably the main certainly a concern for promoters.

The "lites" class was always a quasi support class. It never had semis.

You will have two more races but after the heatraces most of the top guys are qualified for the main. The new (or old) format will help topriders in trouble to have 2 races left to qualify for the main.I think no toprider will miss the main anymore.More races are always welcome.

Are they doing away with the KTM 50 race?
Unless your kid is in it, the only reason for it is more beer or piss time.

Yeah...I follow your logic, but I wasn't really talking about the "top" guys. Just gonna be some fast notables duking it out in the LCQ's.

With only 2 spots up for grabs, it was almost like a 2 man race after the first lap in the LCQ's. With 4 spots there's way more hope for guys in the LCQ, which I think will make more of them race harder. Or thats my theory anyway.

Someone is going to have a busy night though. 3 races in two hours. Thats going to tell after 10-15 laps of the main. A great opportunity for some the 'other guys' to get in on the main event though - and earn some more $

well, I said "first" corner crowd density. can't see how it would matter in subsequent corners. Wink
