Looking at picking up a KX125. Expensive things nowadays at this side of the pond btw. Need some help id'ing the year of the KX. According to the seller it's an '04 but I think this is incorrect due to the black dot in the swingarm that is missing.

Any info on telling the year ? Already asked for the VIN

looks like an 03, the swingarm changed as you said for 04 as did the front brake routing
Thought so, thanks a lot! Still want it as a project even though it's not an '04

Isn't 2003 the one year only bike that is hard to get parts for, etc?

03 As stated by thrillbillie91. Here is my 04 when I picked it up. New swingarm and front brake routing.

It is definitely a 2003. The differences between 2003 and 2004 KX125s are fairly minor. The rear suspension linkage style is the biggest difference. The 2003 uses the older "dog bone" style compared to the more modern "linkage arm". I have owned numerous KX two strokes, using both suspension styles, I actually prefer the older dog bone style on most tracks. But, in reality, there is not much difference. Here is a list of things that I know to be different....

- Different rear suspension link style
- 2003 uses old school brake line routing, easily fixed with a 2004+ brake line....or run it as is
- 2003 pipe is a one-off year fitment. You can run a 2004+ pipe with a simple pipe mount change, very easy swap
- Some mild port changes from the factory
- 2004 went to a rubber-mounted triple clamp

Nice builds! So... still worth picking up the '03 then since differences are fairly small and manageable?

Absolutely. The 125 pictured is a 2003, and it is still to this day one of my favorite bikes of all time. Parts are still readily available in the states, and things like wheels, forks, triple clamps, etc. can all be easily adapted from newer models. The 125 pictured had triple clamps, hubs, forks, and a few other odds and ends from more modern four strokes.
