I like them both. At first the yellow-fendered bike kind of threw me for a loop, but it quickly grew on me - all except the yellow engine case. Either way, they're beautiful builds! Fantastic job, sir! Bravo!

Been making they 20 years now, so this being a 17 was the 20th anniversary.
I've made roughly 6,000 of them new.

Just to clarify, its the same 500AF, with different plastics.
It was built like my 2015 that was on MXAs cover a couple years ago.,same yellow tail and graphics from decal works.

A new 2017 CRF250R chassis, and a brand new CR500 engine assembled from new Honda parts, and my own billet parts (where Honda wasnt available)

It's for a customer so had some added things like a Rekluse clutch.

Thanks all

Yes, I was the operations manager for Service Honda, for about 20 years.
And started the 500AF model for them from my personal 500AF bike back in 97.

After they closed the dealership and sold the parts website ,
I still continue the 500AF model (and 250 /125 ,junior bikes)
in my shop Built,
back where the SH bikes actually started in 97 and where made until 01 ,
when I moved the production to servce hondas buildings. Smile
So basically full circle, and still fun.

Reminds me of the Cycle Gear “Bilt” branding.

6,000 is an impressive number for production. I was thinking about getting into 500 builds back in the early 2000 time period, estimating I could make about $2,000 net profit per bike. I’d guess you’ve probably made 6,000 x 2,000 = $12,000,000 profit over the 20 years?

You've built yourself quite the reputation over the years. What is your preferred year of frame when doing these conversions? If I may ask.

I'd be retired in Belize or something if those numbers played out Wink

Actually i managed and worked for service Honda, so simply paid a salary, which was quite basic i assure you.lol

The initial 3 years i did the AF bikes on contract from my home shop though, but service was supplying the bikes and parts.

Currently back at my own shop ,and so things are different, however the parts availability is an issue now and why I've had to make billet cases etc.

Currently my favorite is 2013-2017 CRF250R chassis like in this build .
(Or 2012-2016 CRF450R)

I do prefer to run a merge linkage knuckle , and 22 offset clamps.
